Co-founded by international cultural manager Sasiwimon Wongjarin (Aom) and cultural writer Claire Rosslyn Wilson, Studio 88 Artist Residency is a creative hub located in the rustic northern Thai town of Doi Saket, 25 kilometers outside Chiang Mai. Studio 88 acts as an international retreat and community-engaged space designed to allow artists to relax, reflect, experiment, and share. Driven by a commitment to cross-cultural exchange, Studio 88 connects global creative thinkers with local traditions, environments, and Southeast Asian art networks.

SensoryScapes Artist Residency 2026: Local Roar • Global Resonance
Studio 88 has officially opened applications for its flagship residency programme, SensoryScapes 2026, operating under the theme "Local Roar • Global Resonance." The residency invites multidisciplinary creators to explore how local stories, regional traditions, and natural environments inspire artistic expressions with global relevance. Running for 4 to 6 weeks between November 1 and December 13, 2026, the program coincides with the Loy Krathong and Yi Peng (Lantern) Festivals and Chiang Mai Design Week 2026. Selected artists receive dedicated studio space, research support, and the opportunity to present public showcases or installations within Chiang Mai's festival ecosystem.

Eligibility
- Geographic Scope: Open unconditionally to international and Thai artists worldwide.
- Practice Focus: Open to creators who experiment across disciplines, challenge traditional boundaries, explore sound/performance/technology/ecology, and seek collaborative engagement.
- Duration Commitment: Applicants choose a preferred residency duration between 4 and 6 weeks within the overall block.
Program Benefits & Support
- Infrastructure & Living: Self-contained private bungalow with an equipped kitchenette, private working area, cleaning service, utilities, air-conditioning, fans, and high-speed Wi-Fi.
- Studio Access: Access to private and shared studio/work spaces.
- Public Showcase Platform: Rehearsal space, venue allocation, technical assistance, and event promotion to present work during Chiang Mai Design Week 2026.
- Curatorial & Administrative Services: On-site administrative support, basic research assistance, curated studio visits, workshops, public sharing sessions, and local scene networking.

Application Fee & Residency Costs
- Application Fee: 100% free to apply ($0 submission fee).
- Residency Cost Structure: Studio 88 operates as a self-funded residency. Accepted artists pay a self-funded residency fee (or apply for external mobility grants using Studio 88 support letters).

(Note: 40,000 THB is approximately €1,000 EUR. Special discounted rates apply for Thai artists. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required upon confirmation, with the balance due 1 month prior to arrival). Costs not covered include airfare, travel visas, health insurance, daily meals, local transport, and personal art supplies. Optional meal plans, airport shuttles, and workshop technical support are available for additional fees.
