Konstnärsnämnden (Swedish Arts Grants Committee) is Sweden’s national public authority that supports professional artists, designers, and cultural practitioners through grants, stipendier, and international programmes. Part of its mission is to strengthen artistic development and international exchange for Swedish artists.
One of its flagship international initiatives is run under the IASPIS – Internationellt program för bild och form (International Programme for
Visual and Applied Artists), which collaborates with high‑profile residency hosts worldwide. The Residens i Berlin, Bethanien is one such partnership, offered in cooperation with Künstlerhaus Bethanien — a leading contemporary art institution and studio programme in Berlin known for supporting experimental practices, critical discourse, and international artistic exchange.

This open call offers Swedish professional practitioners in visual arts and related fields the opportunity to undertake a six‑month
Residency at Künstlerhaus Bethanien in
Berlin, Germany. Selected artists will have access to a spacious studio, furnished accommodation, and a generous stipend to cover travel costs, living expenses, and material needs.
The programme supports artistic creation, experimentation, and international networking. Participants are encouraged to develop significant artistic projects, deepen engagement with contemporary art practice, and build professional contacts within Berlin’s dynamic art scene. This residency is part of Konstnärsnämnden’s mission to facilitate international mobility and strengthen Swedish artistic presence abroad.

Eligibility
- Be a professional artist working primarily in visual and applied arts, including but not limited to bildkonst, photography, design, craft, illustration, textile art, or architecture.
- Be resident in Sweden or conduct the majority of their artistic practice in Sweden* (non‑Swedish citizens may apply if they fulfil residency/working criteria).
- Not be enrolled in formal studies exceeding 50 % of their time at the time of decision.
- Have no outstanding debt cases with Swedish authorities or insolvency issues, and must comply with EU de‑minimis aid regulations.
- Submit relevant work samples representative of current practice.
* If a Swedish citizen lives abroad, they must demonstrate that most of their artistic work is based in Sweden.

Residens in Berlin, Bethanien receive:
Monetary Support
- A stipendium of 130 000 SEK (non‑taxable) intended to cover travel costs, living expenses, and some material and project costs during the residency period.
Residency Package
- A dedicated 55 m² studio at Künstlerhaus Bethanien — a major contemporary art hub in Berlin with access to workshops and shared facilities.
- Furnished accommodation (74 m² flat leased by IASPIS) for the duration of the residency; occupancy for up to two people is permitted (pets not allowed).
Professional Development & Exposure
- Immersion in Berlin’s international art scene with networking opportunities.
- Potential exhibition, collaboration, and cultural exchange opportunities through the Bethanien network.

Application Requirements
Applicants must submit the following via Konstnärsnämnden’s official application system:
- A complete application form with required fields answered.
- Work samples (5–10 files) from the last two years that best represent your artistic practice. Suggested formats:
- jpg (≤ 2 MB)
- mp3 (≤ 20 MB)
- mp4 / mov (≤ 50 MB)
- Titles, years, techniques, dimensions, and descriptions for each media file uploaded.
Submission can be done via the online portal, and paper applications are accepted only when digital access is unavailable.
