For 2027, the Salzburger Kunstverein is seeking a Head of Technical Production and Exhibition Realization to take responsibility for the technical planning and practical implementation of its exhibition and event programme.

Technical Director for Production and Exhibition Realization – Salzburger Kunstverein
The Salzburger Kunstverein is looking for a Technical Director / Head of Technical Production and Exhibition Realization working 30 hours per week from January 1, 2027. The role combines strategic technical production planning with the practical realization of exhibitions and events.
The successful candidate will work at the interface between artistic direction, management, artists, galleries, lenders, external production partners, and freelance technical staff. The position follows the rhythm of the exhibition programme, alternating between longer-term planning phases and more intensive installation and dismantling periods.
The Role Overview
- Position: Head of Technical Production and Exhibition Realization
- Contract: 30 hours per week
- Start date: January 1, 2027
- Salary: At least €2,675.25 gross/month for 30 hours per week, based on the cultural work salary scheme and Fair Pay 2026
- Full-time equivalent: At least €3,567 gross/month at 40 hours/week

Position & Tasks
The role includes technical planning of exhibitions from approximately six months before opening; assessing artists' technical requirements; developing technical and spatial solutions; preparing production and assembly plans; estimating personnel, time, and technical requirements; and coordinating installation and dismantling.
The position also involves managing construction work, organizing freelance technical and production staff, supervising implementation, participating in installation and dismantling, and ensuring professional, safe, and timely execution.
Additional responsibilities include planning and procuring technical equipment and exhibition materials, organizing rentals and transportation, researching suppliers, comparing quotations, coordinating orders and deliveries, and identifying economical, sustainable, and appropriate solutions.
The successful candidate will also maintain technical equipment and exhibition materials, update inventories, organize repairs and maintenance, structure storage and work areas, and contribute to the development of the institution's technical infrastructure.

Eligibility
The position is intended for professionals with experience in exhibition construction, event technology, theatre technology, art production, or a comparable field.
Applicants should have practical knowledge of artworks, displays, exhibition materials, video/audio/projection technology, and safe installation and dismantling procedures. Manual skills, spatial and technical understanding, strong organizational abilities, and experience coordinating multiple production processes are required.
Good German and English are required. A driver's license is an advantage. Knowledge of local providers, rental companies, workshops, and technical service providers is useful, although the ability to independently research suitable providers is also accepted.
