LUX is a publicly funded arts organisation based in London and Glasgow that supports and promotes artists working with the moving image. Its activities include exhibitions, screenings, commissions, educational projects and research. LUX also manages Europe’s largest collection of films and videos made by artists, comprising more than 6,000 works by over 1,000 artists, which are distributed internationally to museums, galleries and festivals. LUX Scotland supports artists’ moving image through a dedicated programme of activities across Scotland.

LVA50 Curatorial Fellowship — LUX
The LVA50 Curatorial Fellowship is a 12-month, part-time paid curatorial position created to mark the 50th anniversary of London Video Arts (LVA), a pioneering artist-run organisation founded in 1976. LVA played an important role in supporting, distributing and exhibiting video art in Britain before evolving into London Electronic Arts and eventually becoming part of LUX.
The Fellow will research LVA’s history and legacy and develop a major public programme comprising a touring screening programme, events at LUX, a symposium contribution and new written content. The programme will run from September 2026 to September 2027 and involve partners across the UK.
The Fellowship also provides mentoring, professional development and access to LUX’s national and international professional networks.
The Role Overview
- Position: LVA50 Curatorial Fellow
- Contract: Fixed-term, 12 months
- Working pattern: Part-time, 4 days per week
- Salary: £36,500 pro rata
- Pension: 5% employer contribution with 3% employee contribution
- Holiday: 25 days plus statutory holidays, pro rata

- Support: LUX Distribution Director, Collection Manager and Programme & Communications Manager
- Working location: LUX London office, Waterlow Park Centre
- Work requirements: Occasional evenings and weekends, compensated with time off in lieu
Position & Tasks
The Fellow will conduct research into the history and legacy of London Video Arts and collaborate with artists, artists’ estates, researchers and partner organisations. Key responsibilities include curating and delivering a touring screening programme using works from the LUX Collection; developing programmes with UK venue partners; introducing screenings and participating in public discussions; and contributing to the LVA50 working group and symposium.
The role also involves producing programme notes and contextual writing, commissioning and reviewing essays, writing a research-based contextual essay for the LUX website, supporting communications and marketing, monitoring relevant budgets and timelines, and delivering two public sharing events during the Fellowship.

Eligibility
The Fellowship is aimed at curators with demonstrable experience in research-led programming and public-facing events, strong research and writing abilities, and a genuine interest in artists’ moving image and its histories.
Applicants should have experience working independently and collaboratively, managing projects and deadlines, and liaising with artists, estates, venues and other stakeholders. Experience with artists’ moving image, film or video collections, UK venue partnerships, or existing networks in the UK artists’ moving image or visual arts sector is desirable.
LUX welcomes applicants from all backgrounds and particularly encourages applications from Black, Global Majority, D/deaf and disabled individuals and people from lower socio-economic backgrounds. Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK and be able to meet the role’s onsite London working requirement.
Program Benefits
The successful Fellow receives a £36,500 pro-rata salary for the 12-month fixed-term position, together with pension contributions and holiday entitlement. The Fellowship provides direct experience of developing and delivering a major national curatorial programme, professional mentoring and development support, and access to LUX’s national and international networks.
The Fellow will also develop a significant body of research, curatorial and written work connected to LVA’s legacy and contemporary moving image practice.

LVA50 is developed with Moving Image Review & Art Journal (MIRAJ), the University of Westminster’s Centre for Research and Education in Arts and Media (CREAM) and UK venue partners including Spike Island, Ambika P3, BALTIC, g39, LUX Scotland and Vivid Projects. The programme includes an exhibition, touring screenings, events, a symposium and publication.
The project is supported by the BFI Screen Heritage Fund, awarding National Lottery funding. The successful applicant must provide satisfactory references covering the previous two years of employment or education and proof of legal entitlement to work in the UK.
