Organizer Information:

The Farm Margaret River is located on a rural property in the South West of Western Australia (Wadandi Country). The program supports artists in developing ambitious work in direct response to the environmental, ecological, agricultural, and cultural context of the site.

Title & Description:

Applications are open for the 2027 Funded Residency.

This 8 to 10-week program provides a unique opportunity for visual artists to undertake focused, site-responsive artworks. The residency culminates in a community engagement event to share the developed work. (Note: The intellectual property of the artworks remains with the artist).

Eligibility:

  • Who: Australian and international visual artists (18+ years of age).
  • Collaborations: Collaborative projects are welcome, but applicants must apply as individuals (not as an organization or collective) and clearly demonstrate their own role.
  • Logistics: A driver’s license is highly recommended, as the property is 10 km from the nearest town and public transportation is limited.

Program Benefits & Awards:

  • Financial Support: A massive $15,000 Artist Fee/Grant to support living and project-related costs.
  • Travel: Initial travel costs to and from Margaret River (including international travel) are fully covered separately from the grant. (Note: Visa arrangements are the responsibility of the artist).
  • Workspace & Accommodation: A comfortable live-in studio (bathroom, kitchen, potbelly fire, fan, internet). Access to basic equipment (easels, saws, sanding machine, drill press, small test kiln) and various studios/workshops.
  • Professional Development: Mentoring, introductions to local networks, professional documentation/photoshoot of the work, and media exposure.

  • Participant Costs: Artists are responsible for their own catering/food during the residency and must bring their own personal equipment (computer, camera, etc.).

Application Requirements:

Applicants must complete the online application questions and upload two documents:

  1. CV (Maximum 2 pages).
  2. Support Material (Single PDF, max 20–25MB): Must be named Surname_Firstname_SupportMaterial. Include a succinct overview of existing practice, focusing on relevant work from the last 10 years. Include captions (Artist Name, Title, Year, Medium, Dimensions) and links for audio/video.
