Volume Zero is an international architecture and design magazine and competitions platform run by a team of young architectural professionals based in Mumbai, India. Founded in 2016, Volume Zero Magazine set out to inspire, empower, and connect designers by showcasing architectural work from around the world; in 2017 the team launched Volume Zero Competitions, an initiative bringing together designers globally through open, idea-based international competitions. Over its history the platform has documented thousands of projects and built initiatives such as the "Hot 100" list to recognize emerging architects. Each competition is reviewed by a panel of jurors and industry experts, and winning and honorable-mention entries are published on Volume Zero's website and in several international architecture and design magazines.

Tiny House 2026 Architecture Competition (Edition #7)

Tiny House 2026 is an open ideas design competition asking participants to design a Tiny House for two people that provides comfortable living accommodation within a minimal footprint. The brief calls for a design that is innovative, creative, and sustainable, exploring how compact spaces can support modern living in meaningful ways, with attention paid to the relationship between exterior surroundings and interior spaces. Proposals can be mobile (towable by vehicle), stationary, portable, floating, suspended, modular, or adaptable to changing lifestyles and environments. The competition has no intention of executing any submitted proposal and is open to architects, students, engineers, product designers, thinkers, companies, organizations, and anyone interested in the theme; no professional qualifications are required.

Eligibility

  • Open to all: architects, students, engineers, product designers, thinkers, companies, organizations, and anyone interested in the competition's mission
  • No professional qualifications necessary
  • Individual entries and team entries are both allowed
  • Teams may have a maximum of three members; interdisciplinary teams are welcome
  • Participants wishing to enter individually may do so by submitting details for a "team leader" only
  • Multiple entries are permitted, but each entry must be registered separately
  • Team members may be added after registration (up to the 3-member cap), but existing members cannot be swapped or removed except by written request to the organizers

Application Fee

Early Bird Registration (19 June 2026 – 21 August 2026), per team: INR 2,700 + 18% GST (INR 3,186 total) for participants from India; USD 70 + 18% GST (USD 82.6 total) for participants from other countries.
Standard Registration (22 August 2026 – 15 October 2026), per team: INR 3,200 + 18% GST (INR 3,776 total) for participants from India; USD 90 + 18% GST (USD 106.2 total) for participants from other countries.
The registration fee is non-refundable. Participants facing payment issues in their country can request alternate payment methods by emailing the organizers.

  • Judging criteria include concept innovation, spatial design, functional versatility, and site selection/justification
