Ucross Foundation. Situated on a historic 20,000-acre ranch in northern Wyoming, Ucross is dedicated to fostering the creative spirit of working artists by providing uninterrupted time and space in the majestic High Plains.
Title & Description:
Applications will open on May 1st for the Ucross Residency Program (Spring 2027 Session).
This residency provides uninterrupted time, studio space, and living accommodations to approximately 115 individuals each year. Residencies range from two to six weeks in length, with up to ten individuals in residence at any one time, allowing artists to focus entirely on their creative process free from daily pressures.

Multidisciplinary (Visual artists, writers, composers, choreographers, interdisciplinary artists, performance artists, and collaborative teams).
Eligibility:
- Who: Applicants must exhibit professional standing in their field; both established and emerging artists are encouraged to apply.
- Student Ban: Ucross strictly DOES NOT accept applications from students at any level.
- Returning Artists: Past residents must wait three years before returning. (You may apply after two and a half years have elapsed).
- Guests & Family: Ucross is strictly unable to invite spouses, partners, or family to accompany artists. (Note: Couples composed of two artists may apply individually for concurrent residencies, but acceptance is not guaranteed for both).
- Collaborative Teams: Allowed (up to 3 collaborators). One artist must apply and submit additional forms for all members.
Program Benefits & Awards:
- Accommodation & Workspace: Private bedrooms and individual studio spaces. Towels, linens, and weekly housekeeping are provided.
- Meals: Lunches and dinners are prepared Monday through Friday by a professional chef, with ample provisions on hand for breakfasts and weekends.
- Amenities: Cell phone service and wireless internet are available throughout the residency facilities.
- Cost: There is absolutely no charge for the residency itself.
Application Fee & Program Costs:
- Application Fee: $40.00. There are strictly NO fee waivers available for the General Studio Residency. (Note: The separate Fellowships for Native American Visual Artists and Writers have no fee).
- Travel & Materials: Residents are solely responsible for their travel to Sheridan, Wyoming, and for providing their own working materials.
Application Requirements:
Applicants must submit a project proposal and references. Work Samples must strictly adhere to the following formatting rules by discipline:
- Visual Art / Strict Constraint: Exactly 10 images at 300 dpi in JPG or TIF format ONLY. NO PDFs. File names must include title and size. Must include a corresponding Data Sheet (title, medium, size, year).
- Dance, Performance & Video: 1-3 video files (max 8 mins / 200MB each) OR up to 3 Vimeo/YouTube links. (Must provide time stamps if the source video is longer than 8 minutes).
- Music/Sound: 3-5 audio files (max 8 mins / 200MB each) OR up to 3 Vimeo links.
- Writing (Fiction, Nonfiction, Playwriting): Must be in English, double-spaced, max 20 pages, and include your full name.
- Poetry: 6-10 poems (max 15 pages total) in ONE single PDF document. New poems must start on a hard page break.

Key Dates:
- Application Portal Opens: May 1, 2026.
- Application Deadline: July 15, 2026, at 11:59 PM MT.
- Notification: Approximately 16 weeks after the deadline.
- Residency Session: Spring Session runs from February through early June 2027.
