The Painting Center is seeking submissions for the juried exhibition "Under 30 Under Pressure," curated by Carrie Patterson. The exhibition will be held in person in NYC and online on Artsy.

Title & Description:

Applications are open for the "Under 30 Under Pressure" Exhibition.

In 2026, young people are coming of age amid unprecedented change—marked by political upheaval, climate instability, and pervasive violence. Social media and emerging technologies shape their daily realities, amplifying pressures around identity, visibility, and unattainable ideals, while mental health struggles continue to rise. This exhibition invites artists under 30 to respond to this moment, expressing what they think, feel, and witness while navigating a world under pressure.

Eligibility:

  • Who: Artists under 30 years old.
  • Mediums: Artists across all styles and mediums are encouraged to apply.
  • Size & Display: There is no size limit for works submitted. However, all works must be wired and ready to hang or be able to be secured on a pedestal. (If the works cannot be wired or secured on a pedestal, please provide installation instructions).
  • Sales Requirement: All works submitted must be for sale.

Program Benefits & Awards:

  • Exhibition: Artwork will be shown in person at The Painting Center and digitally on Artsy.

Application Fee & Program Costs:

  • Application Fee: $40.00 USD for up to three images.
  • Sales Commission: The gallery takes a 35% commission on any works sold.
  • Delivery: Artists are responsible for delivering their artwork to the gallery during the specified delivery window.

Application Requirements:

Submit up to three professional quality images. JPEGs must be 300 dpi. The maximum file size for any individual image is 10 MB.

  • Notification Date: Monday, June 1, 2026.
  • Artwork Shipping / Delivery: Wednesday, June 17 – Saturday, June 20, 2026 (between 11:00 AM and 6:00 PM).
  • Exhibition Dates: June 23 – July 18, 2026.
  • Opening Reception: Thursday, June 25, 2026.
