Organizer Information:

Verein K is hosting the eighth edition of this program, with support from the Federal Ministry of the Republic of Austria for Housing, Arts, Culture, Media and Sport, the City of Vienna, and Bildrecht. The program's core objective is to strengthen the international visibility of artists based in Austria by fostering meaningful connections with international curators.

Title & Description:

Applications are open for Visiting Curators Vienna 2026.

This intensive program selects four international mid-career curators to spend ten days in Vienna engaging directly with the local art scene. Curators will receive tailored introductions and assistance in arranging studio visits, behind-the-scenes access, meetings with independent art spaces, and guided exhibition tours.

Eligibility:

  • Who: International mid-career curators.
  • Experience: Must have realized exhibitions in museums and/or other professional art institutions.
  • Key Requirement: Applicants must be planning an exhibition within the next two years outside of Austria that will include one or more artists based in Austria.
  • Language: The working language of the program is English.

  • Financial Support: Travel costs, accommodation, and per diems are fully covered by Verein K.
  • Networking & Development: Curators receive highly tailored, strategic support in developing long-term collaborations with Austrian institutions, gallerists, and artists.

Application Fee & Program Costs:

  • Application Fee: Free to apply.
  • Commitment: Participants are expected to keep Verein K informed about the development and realization of their proposed projects after the residency concludes.

Application Requirements:

Applicants must submit a single PDF containing the following:

  1. A CV.
  2. A portfolio of relevant curatorial projects.
  3. A description of one or more planned exhibitions in which Austrian artists could play a significant role.
  4. A short outline of your curatorial interests (media, approaches, research focus, etc.).
  5. The names of specific artists, curators, or institutions in Vienna you would particularly like to meet during your visit.(Note: Applications submitted in multiple files will not be considered).
