Works & Process, Inc. Championing performing artists and their creative process from studio to stage, Works & Process produces fully funded residencies via a network of over a dozen partner venues in six states.

Title & Description:

Applications are open for the Works & Process 2026-2027 Paid Residency.

This program invites New York City-based dance artists and dance companies to apply for paid, week-long, out-of-town residencies. Residencies may be used to start a new project or continue developing an existing work, culminating in an open rehearsal or showing for the local community. We are especially interested in projects that go beyond the stage, invite audience participation, and are based in street, club, cultural, percussive, rhythmic, or social dance styles.

Eligibility:

  • Geography: All participating artists MUST live in the five boroughs of New York City.
  • Lead Artist Requirement: Must identify as a choreographer/dancemaker with a sustained artistic practice and a history of at least five years of performing activity in the NYC metropolitan area.
  • Company Size: Support is provided for companies of eight (or fewer) artists.
  • Age & Legal Status: All participating artists must be 18 years or older AND be U.S. citizens or legal residents who can be paid for work.

Program Benefits & Awards:

  • Artist Fee: An industry-leading fee of $175 per day ($1,225 per week) for each artist.
  • Workspace & Accommodation: 24/7 studio access and on-site housing.
  • Additional Support: A travel stipend and access to health insurance enrollment.
  • Future Opportunities: Projects may potentially be presented by Works & Process in New York City (which provides artists with additional fees of $450 per performance).

Application Requirements:

Applicants must provide details about their project and participating artists. The two work samples are considered the key component of the application.

Key Dates:

  • Applications Open: March 24, 2026.
  • Application Deadline: April 21, 2026, at 5:00 PM EST. * URGENT NOTE: The portal will close earlier than the deadline if the strict limit of 300 applications is reached. Apply early!
  • Notification Date: By June 30, 2026.
  • Residency Dates: Seven-day residencies taking place between October 2026 and May 2027.
