The Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman–Joan Whitney Payson Postdoctoral Fellowship is a one-year, full-time position designed for emerging scholars considering careers in museum education or academic engagement. The fellowship offers hands-on experience in object-based teaching, university-level curricular programs, and pedagogy workshops. The fellow will be involved in teaching, research, and the development of innovative teaching resources at the Yale University Art Gallery.

Eligibility:

  • Academic Requirements: PhD in art history, visual studies, archaeology, anthropology, education, or related fields
  • Experience: At least one year of teaching experience in a museum setting using objects
  • Other Requirements:
    • Must reside in the greater New Haven area
    • Must work on-site at the Yale University Art Gallery five days a week
    • Some evening and weekend work may be required
    • Commitment to inclusive teaching practices and interdisciplinary teaching
    • Strong communication, interpersonal, research, and writing skills

 

Theme:

  • The fellowship focuses on museum education, object-based teaching, and university-level curricular engagement, particularly for students at Yale University. The fellow will contribute to pedagogy development and interdisciplinary teaching using the Gallery’s collections.
