Organizer Information

Founded in 2026, the AI Safety & Society Exhibition is a volunteer-led project based in Berlin, Germany. In collaboration with prominent ecosystem partners—including EAGx Berlin, Foresight Institute's Berlin Node, AI Safety Berlin, Æthos, and AI Salon Berlin—the project builds accessible pop-up museum experiences. Through hands-on installations, immersive artworks, and public explainers, the platform empowers non-technical audiences to understand how artificial intelligence systems operate, experience the societal risks and possibilities, and explore avenues for public agency and governance.

Title & Description

AI Safety & Society Exhibition in Berlin: Pop-Up Museum — Call for Pitches

The AI Safety & Society Exhibition has launched an international open call for its inaugural pop-up museum launching in Berlin in November 2026. Seeking interactive installations, immersive VR/XR pieces, sculpture, sound, performance, games, and clear concept explainers, the exhibition aims to make the abstract risks, alignment challenges, and opportunities of AI tangible for over 1,000 visitors. Pitching requires only a 200-word proposal and one visual sketch, image, or link—works-in-progress and conceptual ideas are fully welcomed.

Exhibition Venues & Tour

  • Phase 1 (Main Showing): EAGx Berlin Conference (13–15 November 2026).
  • Phase 2 (Extended Exhibition): Foresight Institute's Berlin Node Opening Reception & Exhibition (19 November 2026 through 2027).
  • Rolling Tour: Subsequent iterations and replicated staging at Mox, LISA, and international partner venues (late pitches are continuously reviewed for future runs).

Creative Pillars & Formats

The call seeks works across four primary presentation modes:

  1. Hands-On Installations & Games: Interactive physical or screen-based setups where visitor actions produce system responses (e.g., trying to stop a stubborn agent, steering persuasion dials, 2-player deployment races).
  2. Immersive Experiences: Room-scale pieces, VR/XR, or audio walks (1–3 minutes) operated via attended stations (e.g., neural network internal visualizers, AI incident simulations).
  3. Tactile Art & Objects: Sculpture, sound, video, print, or performance making abstract stakes perceptible (e.g., 3D-printed loss landscapes, laser-etched model weights in glass).
  4. Clear Explainers: Zines, posters, short films, or tabletop demos unpacking complex topics (interpretability, misalignment, EU AI Act, disempowerment).

Eligibility

  • Demographic Scope: Open to artists, researchers, developers, and makers aged 18 or older of all nationalities worldwide.
  • Stage of Work: Unfinished concepts, prototypes, and in-progress ideas are welcomed.
  • AI Disclosure: Generative AI tools may be used to produce work, provided their usage is fully disclosed.
  • Technical Constraints: Works should run largely unattended, survive hundreds of visitors, and operate on standard mains power/Wi-Fi (15 m² shared indoor floor + outdoor space).

Artist Fees & Provided Resources

  • Guaranteed Artist Honoraria (Paid within 30 days of install):
    • $150 USD for screen-based, digital, or online pieces.
    • $200 USD for physical installations.
    • Up to $500 USD for larger-scale or higher-complexity experiences.
  • Logistical & Production Coverage: All shipping, materials, mounting, crates, and specialized hardware costs agreed upon at the shortlist stage are paid in full on top of the artist fee.
  • Equipment Support: Access to project-owned hardware (Meta Quest 2 headset, 50-inch LED screens, PCs, mounting tables, power) for selected works.
