The Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 1265 "Re-Figuration of Spaces" is a research center established by the German Research Foundation (DFG) in January 2018, hosted at Technische Universität (TU) Berlin, which studies the changes of socio-spatial orders that have been observable since the late 1960s. The center is currently in its third funding period (2026–2029) and comprises three key project areas, with a total of 11 individual subprojects, alongside a cross-cutting theory and design project, an integrated research training group, and a science communication project. While hosted by TU Berlin, participating institutions include Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, and the Leibniz Institute for Research on Society and Space (IRS). The CRC's research draws together sociology, geography, architecture, media and communication studies, art, and planning to develop a transdisciplinary spatial research program, and Prof. Dr. Martina Löw serves as spokesperson of the DFG-funded center. The Artist in Residence program is one strand of this broader research and public-engagement effort, bringing artistic practice into direct conversation with the CRC's interdisciplinary spatial research.

CRC 1265 "Artist in Residence" Program — 2026 Focus: Dance & Refiguration
The Collaborative Research Center 1265 "Re-Figuration of Spaces" offers an annual residency program for artists exploring spatial transformations, supporting artists who research and reflect on spatial conflicts arising from pluralization, ecological crises, and digital networks and infrastructures. Selected artists spend a paid four-week residency at the CRC, engaging with researchers, discussing scholarly work, attending events, and learning about the center's various subprojects. The program aims to give artists a free space to work on new topics or plan new projects, encourage collaboration between artists and researchers on projects related to CRC themes, and foster mutual exchange — with researchers gaining exposure to artistic practices and theories in turn.
