Curatorial Assistant, Publications is a paid museum position supporting the research, development, editing, and production of publications connected to The Broad’s collection and exhibitions. The role combines curatorial research, editorial work, museum publishing, image rights, project coordination, and public-facing writing. The successful candidate will contribute to collection and special-exhibition catalogues, online publications, in-gallery brochures, and didactic and interpretive materials. The position also supports content produced for Curatorial, Marketing and Communications, and Audience Engagement departments.

Position & Tasks

The Curatorial Assistant contributes to the planning and development of The Broad’s publications, conducts primary and secondary research, writes and edits content, and performs fact-checking. Responsibilities include maintaining publication schedules and coordinating with museum staff, writers, publishers, designers, artists, estates, galleries, external editors, and photographers.

The role also involves gathering and tracking essays, interviews, images, historical information, and biographical material; obtaining selected copyright and image permissions; reviewing galleys, bluelines, and plotters; and attending colour-proofing sessions. When required, the assistant researches and drafts exhibition-related content, timelines, archival materials, staff-training resources, and gallery didactics, including material supporting the museum’s forthcoming expansion.

Eligibility

Applicants should have at least 1–2 years of relevant professional experience in museum publications, publishing, curatorial work, editorial work, or a related field. A bachelor’s degree in Art History, Art, Curatorial Studies, Museum Studies, English, Creative Writing, Journalism, Library Science, Publishing, or a related discipline is required.

Applicants should demonstrate an interest in modern and contemporary art, strong research and writing abilities, copy-editing and fact-checking experience, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects. Microsoft Office proficiency is required. Bilingual English/Spanish or another language is considered an advantage.

This is not presented as an international artist open call. It is a U.S.-based employment position. Candidates hired must verify their identity and legal eligibility to work in the United States. Employment is also contingent upon satisfactory background and reference checks.
