Organizer Information
The Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) is Ireland’s premier national institution dedicated to modern and contemporary art, located in Dublin. Established in 1991 and situated within the historic Royal Hospital Kilmainham, IMMA operates as both a museum and an active research platform supporting artists, curators, and cultural practitioners. The institution is widely recognized for its ambitious residency programs, which emphasize interdisciplinary collaboration, long-term research, and engagement with social, political, and historical contexts. Through its Dwell Here programme, IMMA fosters international exchange and encourages practitioners to critically engage with Ireland’s cultural landscape while connecting local narratives to global discourses.
Title & Description
Dwell Here: One Year Residency Open Call / 2027
The Dwell Here: One Year Residency at IMMA is a prestigious, research-driven residency designed for artists and interdisciplinary practitioners seeking to develop sustained, site-responsive work over an extended period. This program invites participants to immerse themselves deeply in the Irish context, committing to both place and time as a framework for critical inquiry and artistic exploration.
Residents will engage in independent research while participating in IMMA’s structured Research Assemblies—intensive, week-long gatherings that bring together residents, mentors, and peers for collaborative dialogue and exchange. These assemblies form a core component of the residency, encouraging participants to share their process and activate their research through formats such as workshops, exhibitions, performances, talks, and open studios.
The residency is guided by key thematic strands, including Technologies of Peace, The Irish Paradigm, and The Museum as a Site of Vibration. These themes invite critical reflection on topics such as memory, geopolitics, cultural identity, institutional critique, and sustainability. The program prioritizes process-based research and interdisciplinary thinking over the production of final outcomes, offering a fertile environment for experimentation and long-term development.
