The Grantham Foundation. With a view to combining research and creation, the Foundation supports thoughtful and innovative projects whose subject matter, materials, or approach recognize the aesthetic, social, and global implications of current environmental issues.

Applications are open for the Residency for Researchers or Curators in Visual Arts with Grant.
This program consists of a four-week research stay at the Foundation, offering specialists time to reflect, write, and present their work-in-progress to the general public. The Foundation is located next to a small river in a wooded area on the edge of a forest, designed to foster an all-season dialogue between indoor spaces and the outside surroundings.

Eligibility:
- Who: Recognized specialists (researchers, critics, curators, environmental scientists) residing in Quebec, Canada, or abroad. Independent researchers and those affiliated with an institution are both eligible. Duos are also eligible.
- Student Restriction / Strict Constraint: Work related to a course of study, a thesis project, or the publication of a thesis is NOT eligible.
- Environmental Integrity: Site-specific work is permitted, but it must respect the integrity of the place. No objects may be permanently installed inside or outside the Foundation.
- International Applicants: Specialists from abroad are responsible for completing the administrative procedures required to enter Canada and remain in Quebec.
- Obligation: Any work produced as a result of research undertaken at the Foundation must acknowledge the Foundation's support.
Program Benefits & Awards:
- Phase 1 Grant: A grant of CAD 5,000 is provided for the initial 4-week research stay and public presentation.
- Phase 2 Support (Optional): Collaboration may continue in the following months (e.g., an exhibition, publication, conference, symposium). Additional support of up to CAD 5,000 may be granted for this second phase, determined jointly by the winner and the Foundation.
- Travel Allowance: A lump sum allowance of up to CAD 1,000 is available to cover part of the travel expenses for researchers residing more than 500 km from the Foundation.
- Workspace & Accommodation: A hybrid living/workspace and exhibition space with an open floor plan.
Application Requirements:
Documents must be assembled in a single PDF (maximum 1 GB) in the following exact order:
- Presentation page (specialist's name, email, postal address, and phone number).
- General presentation of the research approach (max 1 page).
- Project concept (specifying relevance to the Foundation’s mission and a desired schedule for the stay) (max 1 page).
- Overview of expected results (max 1 page).
- Curriculum vitae (max 3 pages).
- 1 to 2 examples of previous publications.
- If applicable: Duly captioned documentation of 1 to 2 curatorial projects or other relevant projects (max 5 pages).

- Winner Announcement: September 12, 2026.
- Residency Dates: 4-week residency taking place in January, February, July, or August 2027.
- Public Exhibition: Usually the last Saturday of the month of the residency.
- Phase 2 Discussion: At the latest 1 month after the end of the residency.
