Short Description
GRID is back! Our one page comic expo once again offers a platform to makers to show their comic to the general public. From 7 June to 30 August 2025, you can admire the selected works in De Krook, Ghent’s public library. The exhibition will then travel to the Dutch festival Cross Comix, where the works will be exhibited from 7 to 13 September.
The name GRID refers to the classic ‘boxes’ in which comics are told. This pattern helps stories unfold, but can also be a limitation. Some creators strictly adhere to the grid, others break it completely. At Pulp deLuxe we encourage play and experimentation and are curious how you will get started with it in your one page comic. This year, we are putting an extra challenge in our Open Call. We ask the participants to send in a one page comic that will be printed in size 1080mm x 2180mm (1/2, portrait format). In doing so, we follow in the footsteps of the Van Eyck brothers who already used this format for their Ghent Altarpiece polyptych.
Eligibility
Anyone who has a connection with Belgium and/or the Netherlands (e.g. lived or was born there, studied there, or has resided there for a long time…)
- Your submission must be a comic or visual narrative: you must tell a story. This can be poetic or abstract, but there must be a clear progression. The storytelling should be evident through composition and/or the addition of text.
- Your story can be traditionally structured with a grid or without one. Both are welcome.
- Your submission consists of one page with a 1/2 aspect ratio; this is also referred to as a “one-pager.”
- Your image must be self-contained and require no additional explanation.
- Your submission must be two-dimensional.
Submission Requirements
- Your submission consists of 1 page with proportions 1/2 (a one pager in portrait format). The selected one-pagers are printed on panels of 1080 x 2180 mm. This does not mean that your drawing has to be drawn at this size, but make sure you have a good resolution.
- Your image can exist on its own and does not need any additional explanation.
