Organizer Information

The Krzyżowa Foundation for Mutual Understanding in Europe (Fundacja "Krzyżowa" dla Porozumienia Europejskiego) is a Polish, politically independent, non-profit organization established 35 years ago, a few months after the German-Polish reconciliation mass of 12 November 1989 attended by heads of government Tadeusz Mazowiecki and Helmut Kohl. The Foundation is based in a 19th-century estate complex in a Lower Silesian village near Wrocław that belonged to the von Moltke family until 1945, and where the Krzyżowa Circle resistance group, founded and led by Helmuth James von Moltke and Peter Yorck von Wartenburg, met during the Second World War. With its International Youth Meeting Center, Memorial Site and European Academy, the Foundation has more than 25 years of experience in non-formal education, with particular expertise in political and historical projects addressing resistance, international relations, civil society development and Europe, alongside art and sustainability projects. In 2020 the International Youth Meeting Center received the 2019 Altiero Spinelli Prize from the European Commission, and the organization holds a European Solidarity Corps Quality Label.
