Organizer Information
The Künstler*innen Vereinigung Tirol is one of Austria’s longstanding organizations dedicated to contemporary visual art. Founded in 1946, the association serves as a platform for artistic production, exhibition-making, and critical discourse in Tyrol. Through its two exhibition venues—the Kunstpavillon and the Neue Galerie—the organization presents an internationally oriented exhibition program that embraces all forms of contemporary artistic practice. Alongside advocating for artists' interests, the association develops exhibitions, public programs, publications, radio broadcasts, and outreach initiatives that encourage dialogue between art and society. Its annual exhibition program is largely selected through an open international call, allowing artists from around the world to present ambitious projects in professionally supported institutional settings.
Title & Description
Kunstpavillon & Neue Galerie: Thresholds Open Call 2027
The Künstler*innen Vereinigung Tirol invites artists, curators, collectives, and interdisciplinary practitioners to submit exhibition proposals for its 2027 annual exhibition program under the theme “Thresholds.”
The call responds to contemporary social and political developments characterized by increasing authoritarian tendencies, anti-modern attitudes, democratic instability, and the resurgence of exclusionary ideologies. The organizers describe a world in which growing social complexity is increasingly difficult to interpret, creating uncertainty and a sense of loss of control that often manifests through misogyny, conservative backlash, and restrictive political narratives.
The 2027 program seeks artistic positions that investigate these developments while proposing alternative visions, counter-models, and emancipatory cultural strategies. Projects may critically engage with themes such as democracy, social complexity, systemic breakdowns, technological disruptions, anti-modern movements, gender politics, authoritarianism, and resistance.
Artists are encouraged to submit exhibition concepts, artistic interventions, research-based projects, multimedia installations, performative works, or experimental presentations that respond thoughtfully to the theme. Up to five projects will be selected and presented between January 2027 and January 2028 at either Kunstpavillon or Neue Galerie in Innsbruck, Austria.
