Organizer Information

L’AiR Arts Association is a Paris-based not-for-profit arts organization (association loi 1901) founded in 2016. It operates as an independent, artist-centered platform dedicated to fostering intercultural exchange through international residency programs and collaborative cultural initiatives. The organization is anchored in Montparnasse, historically one of the most significant international artist districts in Paris during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, closely associated with the École de Paris and major figures of modern art history.

Since 2021, L’AiR Arts has been actively involved in the preservation and activation of the historic Cité Falguière artistic community, including the last remaining studio of this landmark site: Atelier 11. This atelier now functions as an international arts research residency space, hosting artists, curators, writers, and cultural professionals from around the world. The organization’s mission is structured around four core pillars: intercultural exchange, research, professional development, and contemporary creation. Its programming is designed to support both independent artistic inquiry and collaborative engagement within the local Parisian and international art ecosystem.

Title & Description

L’AiR Arts International Arts Research Residency at Atelier 11 Cité Falguière, Paris

This residency program is an interdisciplinary research and production opportunity situated in a historically significant artistic environment in Montparnasse, Paris. It offers selected participants the chance to live and work in a shared yet professionally structured residency environment while engaging deeply with the cultural history of international artists in Paris.

The program is designed as a platform for intercultural dialogue and contemporary artistic research, encouraging participants to situate their practice within both historical and contemporary contexts. Residents benefit from direct exposure to Paris’s artistic infrastructure while developing individual or collaborative projects in a supportive environment.

The residency emphasizes four interconnected dimensions: intercultural exchange between international artists and cultural professionals; research into artistic, historical, and conceptual frameworks; professional development through networking and mentorship; and contemporary creation supported by studio access and a dynamic peer community.

Participants are encouraged to engage with the legacy of the École de Paris and the historical lineage of artists who worked in Montparnasse, while also contributing to contemporary dialogues in their respective disciplines. The residency fosters long-term professional relationships, encourages public presentations of work, and integrates artists into a broader network of cultural practitioners based in Paris and internationally.

Additional Details

This residency operates within a historically charged artistic environment, directly engaging with the legacy of international modernism in Paris. The site itself, Atelier 11, is part of a broader cultural heritage initiative aimed at preserving and activating one of the last remaining studios of the historic Cité Falguière artists’ community.

Residents are encouraged to engage not only in individual production but also in dialogue-driven formats such as open studios, exhibitions, workshops, and informal presentations. The program does not impose mandatory production outcomes, allowing for research-driven and experimental approaches.

L’AiR Arts functions as a network-based platform, connecting residents to Paris-based artists, curators, and cultural institutions, strengthening long-term professional pathways beyond the residency period. The environment is urban, collaborative, and research-oriented, with a strong emphasis on intercultural understanding and artistic mobility.
