Organizer Information

The Malevich Society is a private American not-for-profit organization based in New York City, established by members of the family of artist Kazimir Malevich. Its mission is to advance scholarly knowledge about Malevich (1879–1935) and his artistic legacy. Malevich, born in Kyiv of Polish parentage, is widely regarded as one of the most significant pioneers of 20th-century Modernism, known for founding Suprematism — a radical system of pure geometric abstraction that exerted lasting influence on art and design worldwide. The Society holds that his contributions to the history of modern art merit deeper and broader scholarly recognition.

Operating as a grant-making institution, the Malevich Society has funded major scholarly publications, multi-volume collected works, academic monographs, and critical archival editions. It also holds the copyright to the English-language edition of Kazimir Malevich: Letters, Documents, Memoirs, Criticism (Tate Publishing, 2015). The Founding President is Charlotte Douglas, an art historian specializing in the Russian Avant-Garde and a leading authority on Malevich. The Society's Board of Directors is responsible for all grant award decisions.
