Short Description

R.A.R.O. (Rarely Organized Artistic Residencies) is an international residency program that challenges the traditional model. It is a self-managed program that chooses not to establish itself in a single physical space but instead creates a collaborative network of over 15 local artist studios, where residents are welcomed into the artists’ own spaces and accompanied in the development of their creative processes.

At R.A.R.O. Bogotá, we offer a wide network of artist studios where residents from any background can develop their projects through different formats, including Macro Residencies and Micro Residencies.

  • Micro – Residencies in Bogotá: Open year-round
  • 4th Edition of R.A.R.O. Bogotá between January and March 2026 (exact dates and available scholarships to be announced soon)

At R.A.R.O., we question the role of the artist residency and its multiple formats.

Our usual format encourages connection with other artists and itinerancy within the local art scene of Buenos Aires. However, we also believe that part of the creative experience emerges when we isolate ourselves and give space to silence and reflection. In addition to our Itinerant Residency Program, we offer Short-Term Experiences.

What are our Micro-Residencies?

They are short-term residency formats lasting one, two, or up to three weeks. Participating artists can choose a different atelier to work in each week, developing their projects alongside local artists. Throughout the residency, participants are invited to explore the city and engage in curated outings.

Unlike the longer traditional program, this format does not include a final exhibition or Open Studio, nor does it offer curatorial accompaniment.

Macro Residency

The key element of R.A.R.O.’s Itinerant Residencies is the opportunity to create, collaborate, and move through various artist-run spaces during the residency period.

R.A.R.O.’s multidisciplinary approach allows residents to work in two or more ateliers in a short period of time, delving into one or several disciplines. The project’s network of local artist studios enables participants to choose where to develop their projects and pursue potential collaborations. The selection of studios depends on the techniques each resident wishes to explore and the availability of each atelier.

Residents may work in a minimum of two studios over a period of at least three weeks, allowing them to deepen their practice in one or more techniques. During their stay, they will have the opportunity to present their work, connect with local artists, curators, and collectors, and document their process through audiovisual materials. The final stage of the residency includes either an open studio or a formal exhibition.
