Can Serrat is a Catalan farmhouse (masia) in El Bruc, at the foot of Montserrat, 45 km from Barcelona. Purchased and renovated in 1989 by a group of eleven Norwegian artists, it is one of the oldest international residency programs in Catalonia, offering roughly 1,187 square meters of house space plus studios and garden across the property. The organization functions as a working community where people from different countries and disciplines live and research under one roof, supporting the creative process through individual and collective meetings and an extensive professional cultural network. It has since expanded to include a multidisciplinary coliving program and REMOTA, an online project offering remote support, advising, and collective creation workshops. Can Serrat receives support from the Government of Catalonia (Generalitat de Catalunya) and is a member of Xarxaprod, the network of artistic production centers in Catalonia, and of TAV-CC.

Open Call Summer–Autumn 2027: Visual and Multidisciplinary Artists
Can Serrat is opening a new residency call for visual and multidisciplinary artists of all backgrounds and nationalities, for residencies taking place during summer and autumn 2027 in El Bruc. The program focuses on supporting and guiding the creative process through individual and collective meetings, and on fostering connections within an extensive professional cultural network. The house can accommodate up to 35 people from different countries and disciplines at a time. Alongside the residency itself, Can Serrat also offers a Production Grant and Retorns ("Returns") Grants to recognize and support the continuity of work developed during the 2027 residencies.

Eligibility
- Open to visual and multidisciplinary artists from all backgrounds and nationalities
- Selection is based on artistic judgment rather than a fixed formula or automatic scoring system; the jury reads projects through two criteria functioning as reading tools rather than requirements: "Taste" (the jury's own aesthetic criteria regarding a project's form, decisions, and construction) and "Displacement" (the difference a project produces within the artist's/writer's own practice and in relation to other artistic and literary practices)
- Applications must be submitted in Catalan, Spanish, or English; other languages cannot be accepted
Program Benefits & Awards
- Full Grant for six weeks + Artist Fee: private room accommodation at Can Serrat from 2 August 2027 for six weeks; 2 prepared community dinners per week; access to a list of basic food supplies (coffee, tea, condiments, some dry goods, depending on availability); Artist Fee of €2,000, subject to receipt of full public funding
- Full Grant: shared room accommodation at Can Serrat for one month in October 2027; 2 prepared community dinners per week; access to basic food supplies as above
- Partial Grants (minimum one-month residency, 20 available): Option 1 – shared room (shared with up to 3 people), €1,130/month; Option 2 – private room, €1,745/month; Option 3 – studio only, no accommodation or meals, €305/month; Options 1 and 2 include 2 prepared community dinners per week and access to basic food supplies
- All selected residents: full access to shared spaces (writing rooms, rehearsal spaces, a room with a projector, a communal artists' studio equipped with ceramic tools and an engraving press); participation in an orientation meeting and a monthly display of work to peers; unlimited monthly public transport pass; visibility for the resident's project through Can Serrat's communication channels; publication in the digital project archive
- Production Grant (Visual Arts): €3,000 financial support to recognize one of the artistic processes developed during the residency and support its future production, subject to obtaining public funding
- Retorns Grants (Visual Arts and Writing): a return grant for an additional one-month residency at Can Serrat the following year, granted in December 2027 among residents from the Spring, Summer, and Autumn residencies

- Can Serrat reserves the right to curate activities; available activities and opportunities vary month to month, and participation in some activities is limited and determined by the Can Serrat team according to the activity, guests, and projects in residence
