RivelinCo is a neighborhood arts center "without walls," meaning their creative programming takes place entirely in public and community spaces. Based in Sheffield, UK, they focus on bringing playful, interactive art directly to local neighborhoods based on extensive community consultation.

Applications are open for the £12,000 RivelinCo ‘Rubbish’ Commission.

Following a year of creative consultations across North Sheffield, RivelinCo is looking for an artist or collective to create an outdoor artwork that engages communities with the theme of "rubbish" in a thoughtful, playful, and interactive way. The artwork will tour 4 to 5 community events (fairs, small festivals, often on grass) and must cater to an audience of 100–300 people per day. The installation must be weather-resilient, highly durable, easy to set up and take down, and completely independent of mains power or generators.

Eligibility:

  • Who: Artists or collectives with experience making outdoor work.
  • Scope: UK-based artists (all presentation days will take place in Sheffield).
  • Requirements: The project must be highly accessible for people facing barriers to engagement (e.g., disabilities, neurodivergence, language barriers).

Program Benefits & Awards:

  • Commission Fee: £12,000 GBP (inclusive of VAT, covering all artist fees, creation, presentation, travel, and storage).
  • Access Budget: An additional personal access budget of up to £400 GBP is available if required.
  • Support: RivelinCo provides site scouting, local marketing, event support, and materials sourcing assistance.
  • Rights: The artist retains all Intellectual Property (IP) and can continue touring the work afterward.

Application Requirements:

This is a two-stage process. For Stage 1, applicants must submit an Expression of Interest via email containing:

  1. Contact details and collaborator names.
  2. A link to a portfolio or website.
  3. Answers to 6 specific brief prompts (submitted via text, video, or audio).
  4. A completed Diversity Monitoring Form.(Note: RivelinCo strictly prohibits the use of AI-generated imagery or visual representations in the application; rough sketches or collages are strongly preferred).
