RSA John Kinross Scholarships
Description
The RSA John Kinross Scholarships offer £3,000 to final-year and postgraduate artists and architects for a 6 to 12-week residency in Florence. The program allows participants to research, develop their practice, explore Florence’s rich artistic and architectural heritage, and document their experience.
Eligibility
Artists: Honours or postgraduate students at Gray's School of Art (Aberdeen), Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art (Dundee), Edinburgh College of Art, Glasgow School of Art, or the University of the Highlands and Islands.
Architects: RIBA Part 2 students in their final year or Master's students at one of the five Scottish Schools of Architecture. (Group work not permitted.)
Theme
Participants are encouraged to immerse themselves in Florence’s history, art, and architecture, drawing inspiration for their own creative practice.

Applications are submitted via Submittable:
Artists: Apply through the RSA John Kinross Art Scholarships form.
Architects: Apply through the RSA John Kinross Architecture Scholarship form.
Application Deadline: Sunday, 23 March 2025, 5 PM.

Submission Requirements
Applicants must submit a completed application form along with any required supporting materials as outlined in the guidelines.
Selection Process
A panel reviews applications based on merit, artistic/architectural vision, and alignment with the scholarship's purpose.
Program Benefits / Awards
£2,800 provided initially for travel, accommodation, and subsistence.
£200 awarded upon satisfactory completion of the program.
The opportunity to engage with Florence’s artistic and architectural heritage and create a visual record of the experience.

About John Kinross RSA
A renowned Scottish architect (1855–1931), Kinross was deeply influenced by Florence and Italian Renaissance architecture. His work includes historic restorations and country house designs. The scholarship was established in 1981 by his son to support young Scottish artists and architects in experiencing Florence, just as Kinross did.
