The New Museum of Contemporary Art is a leading international contemporary art museum in New York City, founded in 1977 by curator Marcia Tucker. Its mission, “New Art, New Ideas,” focuses on contemporary culture and on presenting emerging and under-recognized artists from around the world. The Museum is known for its experimental and critically engaged exhibition program and has presented more than 155 exhibitions featuring over 600 artists from more than 60 countries. Its permanent building at 235 Bowery, designed by SANAA, opened in 2007 and supports exhibitions, performances, screenings, residencies, conferences, and public programs.
The SAHA Curator in Residence position is supported by SAHA Association, Istanbul, and provides an opportunity to work within the New Museum's internationally focused Curatorial Department while developing expertise and programming related to contemporary art from Türkiye.

SAHA Curator in Residence
The SAHA Curator in Residence is a two-year, full-time curatorial position at the associate level. The successful candidate will join the New Museum's Curatorial team and contribute to the planning, research, production, and realization of exhibitions and related programs.
A central component of the role is providing research, knowledge, and programming concerning contemporary art from Türkiye. The position combines exhibition production, curatorial research, artist and lender relations, publications, public programming, and administrative responsibilities.

Position & Tasks
- The Curator in Residence will coordinate and support museum exhibitions, including artwork production, loans, installation, and collaboration with artists, galleries, museums, private lenders, fabricators, and internal departments. Responsibilities include conducting curatorial research, developing exhibition proposals, coordinating artist residencies, and assisting with exhibition planning and selection.
- The role also involves managing research and materials for publications, assisting with exhibition catalogues, writing interpretive and promotional content, and supporting press, web, signage, and printed materials. The curator may organize small- to medium-scale exhibitions under the guidance of the Director or other curators.
- Additional responsibilities include assisting with administrative and scheduling matters, supporting fundraising and grant-writing activities, participating in stewardship events, circulating exhibition proposals, and leading public and private museum tours.

Eligibility
- A bachelor's degree in Art History or Curatorial Studies; an MA is preferred.
- At least 3–5+ years of experience executing international museum-quality exhibitions, performances, and publications.
- Extensive experience working with artists, galleries, fabricators, and cultural institutions.
- Strong knowledge of contemporary and modern art, curatorial practices, and exhibition histories.
- Excellent written, editorial, and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and project-management abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite; SketchUp proficiency is preferred.
- Essential expertise in contemporary Turkish art and culture.
- Fluency in both Turkish and English.
- Eligibility to work in the United States.
The position is therefore internationally oriented but not an unrestricted international open call: candidates must be eligible to work in the United States and meet the specific Turkish art and language requirements.
Program Benefits
The position provides an $85,066.27 annual salary and a $23,000 fellowship stipend, together with eligibility for the New Museum's employee benefits program. This is a professional curatorial employment position rather than a conventional artist residency open call. The successful candidate will be expected to work full-time as part of the Museum's Curatorial Department.
