Studio 88 Artist Residency is a peaceful, rustic creative sanctuary situated in the northern Thai town of Doi Saket, located 25 kilometers from the vibrant cultural city of Chiang Mai. Co-founded by international cultural manager Sasiwimon Wongjarin (Aom) and cultural writer Claire Rosslyn Wilson, the hub serves as a global meeting ground where international perspectives connect with local roots. Studio 88 is designed as an incubation platform that encourages creative thinkers to relax, retreat, reflect, and experiment while actively contributing to and engaging with local communities.

Studio 88 is officially accepting proposals for its Summer Artist Residency cycle, inviting creators to spend two to four weeks researching, making, and connecting within an inspiring international community. The program offers an open, self-directed environment for artists to develop new bodies of work, explore fresh conceptual paths, or expand their practice in dialogue with the local context. Grounded in a rustic, nature-connected setting, this seasonal block encourages deep focus, offering on-site support to pre-research regional creative connections and facilitate direct artistic development before the resident even lands.

  • SEA Priority: Specific full-tuition waivers are reserved for citizens of Southeast Asian nations (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Timor-Leste, Thailand, and Viet Nam).
  • Family/Collaborators: Accommodates individual artists, collaborative duos, groups, or creators traveling with active assistants and family members under scaled fee tiers.

Application Fee

  • Submission Cost: Free. There is no application processing fee.
  • Residency Contribution Tiers: Studio 88 is structurally self-funded. Selected residents cover baseline fees unless awarded specialized funding. The summer financial tracks are:
    • SEA Fully Funded: 3 chosen artists receive a 100% Residency Fee Waiver.
    • SEA Shortlist: Eligible for the Group Fee Rate (e.g., 51,000 THB for 4 weeks).
    • International Shortlist: Eligible for the Duo Fee Rate (e.g., 54,000 THB for 4 weeks).
    • Standard Individual Baseline: 40,000 THB (2 weeks); 52,000 THB (3 weeks); 60,000 THB (4 weeks). (Note: 40,000 THB is approximately €1,000).

Application Requirements

Applicants must assemble and upload their data packets through the official form, providing:

  1. Statement of Intent: A maximum of 500 words outlining your active practice, core residency goals, and how you map out your engagement with healing arts or local environments.
  2. Creative Portfolio: Representative examples of your past work (high-resolution images, descriptive outlines, or direct video links).
  3. Professional Resume: A standard CV or artistic biography highlighting relevant experience.
  4. Logistical Preferences: Indication of your preferred residency duration (2 to 4 weeks) and specific availability constraints.

How to Apply

All documents and portfolio media must be submitted digitally via the official Google Form portal. Portfolios sent over email or third-party transfer sites without form registration will be discarded.

Additional Details

The baseline residency fee covers utility connections, high-speed Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and foundational local research setup. Travel airfares, visa processing, art materials, and health insurance are not included. Optional services—including airport pick-up, farm-to-table dining (breakfast and shared home-cooked dinners), technical fabrication support, or professional translation—can be arranged for an additional fee. Confirmed self-funded residents must finalize a 50% non-refundable booking deposit upon acceptance, with the remaining balance due one month prior to arrival.
