AFIELD, Arts of the Working Class, and Framer Framed (Co-funded by the European Union). The TJA program recognizes that artistic practices foster a form of restoration and repair that legal tools alone cannot achieve.
Title & Description:
Applications are open for the Transitional Justice with Artists (TJA) Grant.
This program distributes grants and a six-month fellowship to practicing artists, cultural practitioners, or key members of initiatives addressing legacies of injustice and violence. The program supports Europe-based practitioners and the communities they serve who have endured severe human rights violations, advancing justice through truth-finding/truth-telling, memorialization, tangible repair, and institutional reform.

Eligibility:
- Geography: Applicants MUST be a legal resident (including refugee or asylum seeker status) in an EU Member State OR a Creative Europe associated country (Albania, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Iceland, Kosovo, Liechtenstein, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, Tunisia, and Ukraine).
- Initiative History: You must be part of an artistic initiative that has been operationally active for at least two years at the time of application. (Purely commercial ventures, academic research without community engagement, or start-up stage initiatives are excluded).
- Who: Practicing artists, cultural practitioners, or key members of an artistic initiative.
- Obligation: You must demonstrate community accountability and be available to participate in all components of the six-month fellowship (including the Amsterdam residency).
Program Benefits & Awards:
- Financial Support: A total grant of €10,000 per fellow (€9,000 unrestricted funding + €1,000 for travel/residency).
- Residency: A seven-day residency at Framer Framed in Amsterdam to connect with local practitioners and policymakers.
- Fellowship & Networking: A six-month fellowship featuring regular thematic online meetings and integration into AFIELD’s international network of 140+ socially engaged artists.
- Publication: A published feature in the artistic street newspaper Arts of the Working Class (print run of 70,000+).
Application Requirements:
Applications must be submitted in English. Shortlisted candidates (notified by June 25) will be required to submit a brief video introduction (max 3 mins) within 48 hours.
