The Arte Laguna Prize has officially announced an extraordinary deadline extension for its 21st international open call, introducing an entirely new milestone funding tier alongside its active matrix of international opportunities. The prestigious competition invites contemporary artists across 10 distinct creative disciplines to present their portfolios to an international jury of field-leading critics, curators, and collectors. A total of 120 selected finalists will win the opportunity to display their physical works inside the iconic, 3,000-square-meter Arsenale Nord in Venice—a major global showcase that acts as a vital snapshot of contemporary visual culture. The extension also introduces a brand-new, dedicated Painting Special Prize to recognize the vitality of pictorial languages in capturing present times.

The award accommodates unrestricted creative freedom, accepting all techniques across 10 structured categories:

Eligibility

  • Demographics: Completely open to international and domestic contemporary artists of all ages, nationalities, genders, and artistic backgrounds.
  • Career Juncture: Welcomes applications from emerging talent, self-taught creators, mid-career practitioners, and established design professionals alike.
  • Work Criteria: Works do not need to be new and may have been previously exhibited or entered into other active competition tracks, provided they are physically available for the exhibition run.

Program Benefits & Awards

  • Grand Cash Award: A €10,000 cash prize awarded to the overall competition winner.
  • Arsenale Nord Showcase: Structural inclusion in the high-traffic finalists' group exhibition at the Arsenale Nord in Venice from November 6 to November 29, 2026.
  • New Painting Special Prize: A total pool of €5,000 split among three selected artists: two grand awards for traditional oil paintings (€2,000 and €1,000) and one grand award for any other painting medium or technique (€2,000).
  • 15+ International Special Prizes & Residencies: Free programmatic eligibility to apply for fully and partially funded global residencies, including:
    • The Swatch Art Peace Hotel (Shanghai, China): 3-month residency tracking travel, B&B housing, and studio space.
    • Litix Spa (Carrara, Italy): 2-week block carving residency providing a raw block of marble and a €1,500 development grant.
    • Sustainability Prize (Ricardo Palma University, Lima, Peru): A minimum 1-month residency focusing on architectural and environmental convergence.
    • Additional hubs: BigCi (Australia), NY20+ (Chengdu, China), LAB852 (Hvar, Croatia), Estudio Rambar (Costa Rica), Culver City Art Foundation (USA), Leignon Castle (Belgium), and MoCA (Venice).
  • Exhibitions & Commissions: Site-specific execution contracts via Business for Art with Gabe Tenute (Treviso, Italy), international feature collective exhibitions at Galata – Museo del Mare (Genoa), a solo show at Gallery Studio 76 (Bucharest, Romania), and a featured showcase at Crossing Art Rising Stars (New York or Shanghai).

Application Fee

The entry fee covers the evaluation of up to 5 individual or varied artworks and provides a permanent, free artist portfolio profile on the Arte Laguna World portal. Fees are determined by the applicant's age bracket (VAT included):

  • Artists Under 35 (Born on or after January 1, 1991): €97.60
  • Artists Over 35 (Born on or before December 31, 1990): €122.00
  • Additional Submissions: Submitting more than 5 works carries a separate incremental cost of €24.40 per additional piece. There are no extra setup, catalog production, or exhibition participation fees for selected finalists.

Application Requirements

To enter the competition loop, artists must fulfill the following digital parameters:

  1. Portal Registration: Set up an account and complete a comprehensive profile on the main online portal.
  2. Dossier Upload: Provide high-resolution files of up to 5 creative works, including full metadata formatting (Title, Medium, Dimensions, Creation Year).
  3. Special Prize Selection: Finalize separate, free application modules inside your dashboard account to register for individual international residencies, business collaborations, or theme-specific gallery awards.

How to Apply?

All portfolios, project statement parameters, and category entry configurations must be finalized strictly through the unified electronic registry portal. Submissions requested over standard social channels will be systematically ignored.

Additional Details

While Arte Laguna Prize assumes financial and operational ownership of the physical Venice exhibition setup, architectural lighting, curatorial layout pacing, and standard promotional press blocks, selected finalist artists are entirely responsible for their own round-trip artwork transportation, international customs clearance, import/export duties, and individual transit/venue fine art insurance policies.
