Organizer Information
The Eidolon Centre for Everyday Photography is an independent organization based in Budapest, Hungary, dedicated to the study, preservation, interpretation, and promotion of vernacular photography and everyday image culture. The organization focuses on both historical photographic archives and emerging forms of digital image-making, encouraging critical engagement with photography beyond traditional fine art contexts. The eidolon Grant is the institution’s flagship international funding programme designed to support innovative projects exploring the cultural significance of everyday photography.
Title & Description
eidolon Grant 2026 – International Grant for Vernacular Photography and Everyday Imaging
The Eidolon Centre for Everyday Photography invites artists, researchers, academics, writers, curators, collectors, and photography professionals from around the world to apply for the third edition of the eidolon Grant.
The programme supports projects that explore, preserve, interpret, and promote vernacular photography and everyday image cultures. With a total funding pool of €25,000, the grant seeks innovative proposals that investigate how photographs function within personal, social, historical, and digital contexts.
Applicants may submit projects under one of two thematic categories:
Category 1: Contemporary Everyday Photographic Cultures
Projects should critically examine digital images, social media platforms, networked image cultures, online visual communication, identity formation, and the social, political, historical, and aesthetic implications of contemporary image-making practices.
Category 2: Everyday Photographs of the Past
Projects should engage with nineteenth- and twentieth-century vernacular photography, archives, family collections, collective memory, photographic heritage, preservation practices, and the historical development of photographic technologies and their impact on society.
Selected projects will contribute to Eidolon’s programme and public activities throughout the following year, enriching discussions around photography, memory, visual culture, and contemporary image practices.
