The Finnish Cultural Foundation (Suomen Kulttuurirahasto - SKR) is a private trust dedicated to promoting science, the arts, and Finnish culture through annual grant allocations. In partnership with Narva Art Residency (NART)—a historic cultural center founded in 2015 in Narva's Kreenholm district by the Estonian Academy of Arts, the Estonian Ministry of Culture, and Narva Gate OÜ—SKR funds fully supported international residency stays for creators residing in Finland.

Finnish Cultural Foundation Residency Grant at NART (August 2026 Call)

The Finnish Cultural Foundation has launched its August 2026 grant call for 3-month international artist residencies at the Narva Art Residency (NART) in Narva, Estonia. Situated in a historic 19th-century Neo-Gothic villa in the Kreenholm district along the Estonian-Russian border, NART offers artists a unique post-industrial context to pursue creative research and community engagement. Selected residents gain access to private housing, shared studio infrastructure, local networking with the Estonian Academy of Arts, and research access to the former Kreenholm textile manufacturing complex and the "Narva Venice" canal system.

Eligibility

  • Geographic & Residency Requirement: Applicants must be Finnish citizens or foreign artists currently residing in Finland.
  • Applicant Formats: Individual artists or partnerships of two artists (duos apply via a single application).
  • Community Focus: Applicants are encouraged to outline clear strategies for connecting with Narva's local Russian-speaking and post-industrial community.

Program Benefits & Awards

  • Working Grant: €8,000 working grant per artist for the 3-month residency duration (for duos, both partners receive individual €8,000 working grants).
  • Travel Support: Dedicated travel grant awarded based on chosen eco-friendly or standard transport modes.
  • Accommodation & Workspace: Free private bedroom (duos share one bedroom), shared communal living/kitchen spaces, and shared studio/co-working spaces.
  • Site Access & Logistics: Direct access to the historic Kreenholm manufacturing site, small rowboat access for exploring the "Narva Venice" canals, and complimentary bicycles for local transportation around Narva.
  • Curatorial & Community Assistance: Assistance with local context introductions, research facilitation, translation during community workshops, and networking via the Estonian Academy of Arts.

Application Requirements

  1. Application Dossier: Submission of an artistic project proposal, portfolio, CV, and community engagement outline submitted via the SKR application system.
  2. Designated Working Periods: Applicants choose between two 3-month residency blocks:
    • Period 1: May 1 – July 31, 2027
    • Period 2: October 1 – December 31, 2027
