Organizer Information
ATLAS (Association pour la promotion de la traduction littéraire) is a cultural association based in Arles and Paris that has worked for over 40 years to support, train, and promote literary translators and their profession. It organizes the Assises de la traduction littéraire in Arles and the Printemps de la traduction in Paris, runs translation workshops and cultural-outreach missions across France, delivers ongoing professional training for translators, awards literary translation prizes, and builds national and international networks among translators.
To carry out this mission, ATLAS operates the Collège international des traducteurs littéraires (CITL) in Arles, a dedicated translation residency founded in 1987 that hosts literary translators, authors, researchers, and linguists from around the world for stays ranging from one week to three months. In 2023, ATLAS was accredited as a host structure for Culture Moves Europe, an EU-funded international mobility program managed by the Goethe-Institut for arts and culture professionals, and has since organized several rounds of mobility residencies for translators at the CITL.
Title & Description
Un hiver en Provence — Culture Moves Europe Residency at the CITL (2026–2027)
Through funding from Culture Moves Europe, ATLAS is offering five mobility grants for a three-month literary translation residency at the Collège international des traducteurs littéraires (CITL) in Arles, running from 11 December 2026 to 11 March 2027. Selected translators will work on their own translation projects while staying at the CITL, and will be supported throughout their stay by a program of activities designed to deepen or refresh their knowledge of the French book industry, of literary activity in the Région Sud, and of their skills as translators. The content of this program is adapted to the wishes, working languages, and experience of the five chosen residents.
