The Grantham Foundation. The foundation wishes to provide significant support for thoughtful and innovative projects whose subject matter, materials, or approach recognize the importance of the aesthetic, social, and global implications of current environmental issues.

Title & Description:

Applications are open for the Residency for Artists in Visual Arts with Grant.

This program consists of a four-week research-creation stay at the Foundation, followed by a presentation of work-in-progress to the general public. The Foundation is located next to a small river in a wooded area on the edge of a forest, designed to foster an all-season dialogue between indoor spaces and the outside surroundings.

Eligibility:

  • Who: Visual artists residing in Quebec, Canada, or abroad. Duos are eligible (conditions and grant amounts remain the same).
  • Experience Requirement: Applicants must have a minimum of five years of professional experience.
  • Environmental Integrity: Site-specific work is permitted and encouraged, but it must be carried out with respect for the integrity of the place. No objects may be permanently installed inside or outside the Foundation.
  • International Artists: Artists from abroad are strictly responsible for completing the administrative procedures required to enter Canada and remain in Quebec.
  • Obligation: Any work produced as a result of this research must acknowledge the Foundation's support.

Program Benefits & Awards:

  • Phase 1 Grant: A grant of CAD 5,000 is provided for the initial 4-week residency and public presentation.
  • Phase 2 Support (Optional): Collaboration may continue in the following months (e.g., a solo exhibition, performative actions, artist's book). Additional support of up to CAD 5,000 may be granted for this second phase, determined jointly by the winner and the Foundation.
  • Travel Allowance: A lump sum allowance of up to CAD 1,000 is available to cover part of the travel expenses for researchers residing more than 500 km from the Foundation.
  • Workspace & Accommodation: A hybrid living/workspace and exhibition space with an open floor plan, hidden bed, and kitchen.

Application Requirements:

Documents must be assembled in a single PDF (maximum 1 GB) in the following exact order:

  1. Presentation page (artist's name, email, postal address, and phone number).
  2. Artist statement (max 1 page).
  3. Project concept (specifying relevance to the Foundation’s mission and a desired schedule for the stay) (max 1 page).
  4. Overview of expected results (max 1 page).
  5. Curriculum vitae (max 3 pages).
  6. Visual portfolio (10 images or 5 web links with full captions and credits).
  7. Press review (max 5 pages).
