Kunstgebäude Stuttgart is a historic exhibition building located at Schlossplatz in the center of Stuttgart, Germany. Originally connected to the architectural heritage of the former Württemberg ducal residence, the building has played an important role in the cultural and artistic history of the region for more than a century.
The current Kunstgebäude was designed by renowned German architect Theodor Fischer after a fire destroyed the previous structure in 1902. The building was officially opened on 8 May 1913 and has since served as an important venue for exhibitions, cultural events, and artistic presentations.
After a comprehensive renovation completed in spring 2024, Kunstgebäude Stuttgart reopened its spaces for public exhibitions and cultural activities. The State of Baden-Württemberg now offers institutions, artist groups, and cultural initiatives the opportunity to temporarily use the large gallery space on the first floor as a professional exhibition venue.
The programme aims to support diverse contemporary artistic practices by providing a high-quality presentation environment for changing artistic positions, experimental formats, and interdisciplinary projects. The opportunity is managed through the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, which coordinates the application process and jury selection.
Through this initiative, Kunstgebäude Stuttgart seeks to encourage innovative artistic projects while making its central cultural location available for temporary exhibitions and public engagement.

Invitation to Tender for the Use of the Large Gallery Space for 2027 and 2028
The State of Baden-Württemberg invites institutions, artist collectives, and cultural organizations to apply for the temporary use of the large gallery space at Kunstgebäude Stuttgart during available periods in 2027 and 2028.
The opportunity provides selected applicants with access to an approximately 183-square-metre exhibition space located on the first floor of the historic Kunstgebäude. The programme is designed to support professional artistic presentations and provide a platform for contemporary artistic expression.
Applicants are invited to propose exhibition concepts and projects across a wide range of artistic formats, including visual arts, installations, media art, spatial projects, performance-based works, and interdisciplinary exhibitions.
The call specifically supports group exhibitions and collaborative artistic projects. Individual artists cannot apply independently; applications must represent a group exhibition or institutional/project-based presentation.
The selected projects should demonstrate artistic quality, innovation, diversity of approaches, and relevance within contemporary artistic discourse. A jury composed of curators from Staatsgalerie Stuttgart will evaluate applications based on artistic quality, originality, thematic diversity, and the strength of the proposed exhibition concept.
The exhibition duration can be flexible, ranging from two weeks to two months, depending on availability. The selected exhibitors will receive the gallery space free of rent and operating costs, including electricity, water, and heating.

- Wall V: 4.80 m × 3.10 m
- Wall VI: 17.80 m × 3.10 m
- Wall VII: No hanging area (open connection to gastronomy)

Additional requirements:
- Exhibitions must be free of admission charges.
- Sale of artworks during the exhibition is not permitted.
- Exhibitors are responsible for security during opening hours.
- Opening hours are:
- Tuesday–Sunday: 10:00–17:00
- Thursday: until 20:00
- Alternative opening hours must be approved by the operator.
- Applicants must provide proof of liability insurance before the exhibition begins.
- Exhibitors must comply with Kunstgebäude Stuttgart’s house regulations.
- Applicants are responsible for any damages caused by themselves or visitors.
Due to the open architectural design and proximity to gastronomy areas, projects generating excessive noise are not suitable.
