Organizer Information
The Centre national de la danse (CND) and the Cité internationale des arts are two leading French cultural institutions dedicated to supporting artistic research, creation, and international exchange in the performing and visual arts.
The Centre national de la danse, based in Pantin (just outside Paris), is France’s primary public institution dedicated to dance. It serves as a national hub for choreographic creation, research, documentation, training, and dissemination. The CND supports artists through residencies, studio access, educational programs, and archival resources, while actively promoting contemporary dance at both national and international levels.
The Cité internationale des arts, located in the historic center of Paris, is one of the largest artist residency centers in the world. Since its founding in 1965, it has hosted thousands of international artists across disciplines, offering studio-apartments and a collaborative environment that encourages experimentation, intercultural dialogue, and professional development.
Together, these institutions collaborate to support choreographic research and international mobility through a dedicated residency program that connects artistic practice with institutional networks in France.
Title & Description
Centre National Dance Centre x Cité internationale des arts Residency Program (2027) – Call for Choreographers
This international residency program is designed for choreographers working and residing outside France, offering them a structured opportunity to develop their artistic research within Paris and Pantin. The program is intended to strengthen the mobility of dance professionals, expand their international networks, and provide a meaningful platform for developing or deepening choreographic projects.
Selected artists will undertake a three-month residency in 2027, hosted jointly between the Cité internationale des arts in Paris and the Centre national de la danse in Pantin. The residency is structured to support both creative production and research-based exploration, offering access to studio spaces, professional networks, and institutional resources.
Residents will benefit from a hybrid working model: a live-in studio space in central Paris combined with dedicated studio/workshop access at the CND in Pantin. This dual-location structure enables choreographers to engage with both urban artistic life and a large-scale dance research environment.
The program also emphasizes restitution and public engagement, with each selected artist expected to develop a final presentation format (performance, sharing, workshop, or other format) adapted to their project’s needs.

Additional Details
The selection process is conducted by a professional jury composed of representatives from both partner institutions and invited dance experts. Applications are evaluated based on artistic quality, conceptual coherence, and the relevance of developing the project within the French context, particularly in relation to Paris’s cultural ecosystem.
The residency is structured not only as a production opportunity but also as a networking and research platform, encouraging choreographers to engage with French institutions, archives, and contemporary dance communities.
The studio-apartments are designed to integrate living and working conditions, although they are not fully accessible for persons with disabilities. The organizers indicate ongoing efforts to improve accessibility in future editions.
The program strongly emphasizes international exchange, artistic mobility, and the development of new choreographic languages in dialogue with institutional spaces in France.
