Organizer Information

The OASis Lisbon Artistic Residencies programme is organised by Gerador, a Portugal-based non-profit founded in 2014 that focuses on promoting access to culture, journalism, and education. Gerador is known for its commitment to fostering creative participation and supporting emerging and interdisciplinary practices.

The programme is developed in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut in Lisbon, part of Germany’s global cultural network dedicated to international cultural exchange and language promotion. The residency takes place within the Goethe-Institut’s Lisbon premises, a historically and architecturally rich environment that includes exhibition and community spaces.

This residency is part of the broader OASis – Open Art Spaces in Synergy project, co-funded by the European Commission. The initiative connects 13 interdisciplinary art spaces across 10 countries, aiming to reduce structural barriers in the art world and promote accessible, community-driven artistic production.

Title & Description

OASis Lisbon Artistic Residency Programme 2026 – Open Call

The OASis Lisbon Artistic Residencies 2026 is a short-term, process-oriented residency programme designed to foster interaction between international artists and local communities in Lisbon, particularly engaging individuals aged 50 and above.

The programme invites artists, researchers, and cultural practitioners working across disciplines to develop site-specific, non-performative, and non-audiovisual works within the Goethe-Institut Lisbon building. Participants are expected to create projects that actively engage the local community throughout the development process, emphasizing collaboration, dialogue, and social connection.

Artists will work within one of three designated intervention areas:

  • Glass surfaces in the cafeteria
  • Staircase wall leading to the cafeteria
  • Wall and garden fence

The residency unfolds in three phases: concept development, a one-week in-person residency, and a final public showcase. The programme culminates in an exhibition in Lisbon, with potential inclusion in a larger European exhibition in Brussels in 2027.
