Organizer Information
The Other Space Foundation (Fundacja Inna Przestrzeń) is a Warsaw-based nonprofit organization founded in 2006. Its work spans international cultural cooperation, human rights, community development, and multicultural integration. Among its long-running programs are the Transkaukazja festival, a multicultural centre in Warsaw, and the Shadow Architecture book and interdisciplinary project series focused on marginalised urban spaces. The foundation leads the OASis – Open Art Spaces in Synergy project, a three-year European initiative (2024–2027) co-funded by the European Commission under the Creative Europe programme, bringing together 14 NGOs from 11 countries to create 13 inclusive art hubs and paid residencies across Europe.
For the Warsaw edition, the foundation is joined by two co-organizers: Warszawski Klub Wodniaków PTTK, a long-standing community harbour and water tourism centre on the banks of the Vistula River; and The Academic Association of the Faculty of Architecture, Warsaw University of Technology (FoA WUT), host of Open Studio Jazdów. Wolny Jazdów, where OASis #2 is based, is a historic settlement of 26 autonomous Finnish wooden houses built in 1945 in the heart of Warsaw — originally constructed as post-war reparations housing and now home to dozens of NGOs, residents, and community groups. Listed in the Register of Historic Places since 2017, it has become one of Warsaw's most distinctive community and cultural spaces, located approximately 300 metres from the Polish Parliament.
Title & Description
Open Call for the OASis in Warsaw 2026
OASis Warsaw 2026 is an interdisciplinary artist residency programme running across two distinct sites and two separate periods in the summer and autumn of 2026. Artists, architects, designers, researchers, filmmakers, video artists, performers, musicians, community animators and other interdisciplinary practitioners are invited to apply.
The programme comprises two residencies: OASis #1 at Warszawski Klub Wodniaków PTTK, focused on the harbour as a public and community space in relation to Warsaw's urban waterways; and OASis #2 at Wolny Jazdów, exploring gentrification and the future of a non-profit community settlement in the centre of a highly commercialised city.
Applicants may indicate interest in one or both contexts. The final selection assigns each contributor to a single residency. Across both editions, a total of seven contributors will be selected: five for OASis #1 and two for OASis #2.
Theme
OASis #1: How artistic, architectural, educational and community-based activities can strengthen a community harbour's role as an open, interdisciplinary public space — connecting its specific identity with the wider potential of Warsaw's urban waters.
OASis #2: Gentrification and its interference with the character of Wolny Jazdów — a community grounded in empathy, cooperation and inclusivity — and whether such places can endure within a highly commercialised city.
