Terre Altre is an artistic residency program promoted by the Municipality of Subbiano (Arezzo, Italy) in collaboration with CasermArcheologica and Ideatica. The project is funded by the Tuscany Region (PR ESF+ 2021/27) as part of the Giovanisì project for youth autonomy. It aims to revitalize the Tuscan Apennines (Casentino and Valtiberina) through contemporary cultural narratives and artistic research.

Title & Description

OTHER LANDS (Terre Altre) Artistic Residencies for Moving Images.

This professionalizing residency focuses on the production of moving images in all forms (cinema, documentary, video art, audiovisual installation). Participants will explore the historical stratification and forest landscapes of the Tuscan Apennines, engaging with local communities to bridge the gap between rural areas and mainstream cultural networks. The program integrates non-formal training, territorial research, and high-level mentorship.

Eligibility

  • Participants: 10 Artists and 2 Curators.
  • Age: 18–35 years (must not have turned 36 by the deadline).
  • Employment Status: Must be currently unemployed, unengaged in other study/training paths, and not a VAT (Partita IVA) holder during the residency.
  • Education: Minimum of a high school diploma.
  • Requirements: Availability to reside in the area for the full 6 months, collaborative attitude, and interest in inclusive practices.
  • Language: For foreign applicants, a minimum Italian level of A2 is required.

Program Benefits & Awards:

  • Monthly Grant: €500 net per month for 6 months (total €3,000).
  • Housing: Free shared accommodation provided in various locations (Sansepolcro, Arezzo, Subbiano).
  • Production Support: Access to workspaces, technical equipment (editing software, sound labs, projectors), and potential production cost coverage up to €6,000 for the collective cohort.
  • Professional Development: Mentorship and individual tutoring from a diverse body of expert teachers and directors.
  • Visibility: Inclusion in a final installation exhibition at CasermArcheologica and a public festival in Subbiano.

Additional Details

The residency is divided into three distinct phases: Phase 1 (Sansepolcro) focuses on theory and research; Phase 2 (Arezzo) involves practical labs and production; Phase 3 (Subbiano) is dedicated to final editing and the public festival. Attendance is mandatory (minimum 70% per month to receive the full grant).
