The 10th edition of the PORTRAITS – Hellerau Photography Award invites artists to explore the theme Echoes of Truth, reflecting on the historical and political layers of the Festspielhaus Hellerau, as well as the devaluation of truth in current over-politicized times. Participants are encouraged to submit work that responds to this theme.

 

Information and Application Details:

  • Deadline: 15 February 2025.
  • Entry Platform: Submissions via Picter.
  • Categories:
    • Projects (up to 20 images) with a participation fee of €50.
    • Single Image with a participation fee of €30.
    • Early Bird: 50% student discount until 31 December 2024.

 

Eligibility:

  • Open to all individuals aged 18 or older.
  • Exclusions: Employees or freelancers of HELLERAU – European Center for the Arts, Kunstagentur Dresden, jury members, and sponsors.

 

Theme:

  • Echoes of Truth: Explore historical, cultural, and political layers at the Festspielhaus Hellerau, and address how truth is often devalued in contemporary society.

 

How to Apply:

  • Submit your work through Picter (link provided).
  • Entries must be submitted digitally without written information, copyright notes, or similar annotations.
  • The work should adhere to the competition theme and may be submitted as a series of up to 20 images or a single image.

 

Submission Requirements:

  • No AI-created works are allowed.
  • Work must be submitted digitally for the jury’s evaluation.
  • A maximum of 20 images or a single image per participant.
  • The work should not include written information, copyright, or similar annotations.

 

Selection Process:

  • Jury: A panel of jurors will select the finalists and determine the prize winners. (Jurors: Carena Schlewitt, Ute Mahler, Daniel Blochwitz, Dr. Caroline von Courten, Prof. Angela Matyssek, Sandra Buschow)
  • Shortlist Announcement: 30 April 2025.
  • Exhibition: Selected works will be showcased at Dresden’s Museum of Science and Technology.

 

Program Benefits or Awards:

  • 1st Prize: €5,000
  • 2nd Prize: €2,000
  • 3rd Prize: €1,000
  • Residency Prize: Scholarship at HELLERAU – European Centre for the Arts.
  • All selected works will be included in the final exhibition.
  • A newly designed catalog will be published.
