Art & Media Culture Agency M-Cult, founded in 2000, develops and presents art and media culture with a focus on the social and political dimensions of media and technology, connecting artists and local communities to global concerns through art commissions, residencies, and learning programmes. Titanik is a contemporary art space in Turku, Finland, established in 1988 by the artist-run organization Arte Ry, hosting exhibitions, concerts, talks, and performances, and since 2006 has run Titanik A.i.R., the first artist residency in Finland focused on sound art and sonic practices. The residency programme has received funding from the Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme for Culture, administered by Nordic Culture Point.

Residing Non-linear Technologies and Sonic Worldings — Residency Open Call
M-Cult (Helsinki) and Arte/Titanik (Turku) are launching a new joint residency initiative bringing together art, media, and sonic practices. The programme approaches technology as a situated practice, shifting focus away from "progress"-driven narratives promoted by large tech companies toward local, indigenous, and community-oriented perspectives on sonic and technological worlds. Through this open call, the organizers will select two artists to undertake research residencies split between Helsinki and Turku, culminating in public presentations in both cities.

Rethinking sonic and technology-driven worlds within a Nordic and Baltic context — vernacular and non-linear technological and sonic environments, local histories and traditions, and artistic practice as a way of "worlding otherwise" to reshape future practices and political imaginaries.

Eligibility
- Artists from or based in Nordic or Baltic countries: Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Åland, Faroe Islands, Greenland, Estonia, Latvia, or Lithuania
- Individual artists only — not open to collectives
- Working within the field of sound, media, and/or digital arts, or the expanded field of vernacular technologies (broadly defined)
- Must be available to travel to Finland for the full two-month residency period and able to focus on research and residency activities
- Open to applicants at all career stages and from all backgrounds
Program Benefits & Awards
- Accommodation for 2 months, split between Helsinki and Turku (one month each)
- Travel costs covered: one return ticket from Nordic-Baltic countries
- Access to Titanik's residency studio space and M-Cult's office working desk during each respective stay
- €3,500 artist fee
- €2,000 production budget
