Rose Choreographic School is an experimental research and pedagogy project based at Sadler’s Wells East in London. The School takes a postdisciplinary approach to the idea of the “choreographic,” extending beyond conventional dance-making to investigate how movement, systems, relationships, attitudes, and forms of organisation can be understood and explored. Rather than operating as a conventional educational institution, the School functions as a gathering place for artistic research, collective study, critical exchange, and experimentation. Every two years, it forms an Artistic Cohort of researchers who pursue individual enquiries while collectively shaping the School’s learning environment.

Rose Choreographic School: Choreographic Research Fellowship 2027–2029
Rose Choreographic School: Open Call for Artistic Cohort 2027–2029 invites applications for the School’s second two-year Artistic Cohort. Nine selected artists or artistic researchers will pursue their own choreographic research while collaboratively imagining and developing the conditions of a school through regular assemblies, discussion, experimentation, and shared learning.
The programme is not designed to produce a finished performance, exhibition, or other predetermined artistic outcome. Applicants are encouraged to bring research questions they are already exploring, particularly enquiries that remain open-ended and do not have a preconceived conclusion. Research may involve dance and choreography, but it can also address movement, systems, bodies, text, sound, social relations, or other areas connected to the choreographic.

Eligibility
The call is open internationally to applicants aged 18 and over, with no maximum age limit. Applicants do not need to identify as choreographers or even as artists, and formal academic or traditional artistic training is not required. The School welcomes self-directed research practices from different disciplines and backgrounds.
Applicants must be able to participate in regular in-person Cohort Assemblies in London. Relocation to the UK is not required, but the School cannot provide or support visa applications. Applicants cannot be simultaneously engaged in full-time education elsewhere.
Program Benefits & Awards
Nine selected cohort members will each receive a £15,000 research budget, distributed through monthly stipend payments and adaptable to their research needs. Participants receive access to studio space at Sadler’s Wells East, mentoring, dramaturgical and critical support, and administrative and production assistance.
The School will cover travel to London and accommodation for the scheduled Cohort Assemblies. Participants will also have opportunities to share research materials through the School’s website and social media. The programme includes regular in-person assemblies, alongside online meetings, seminars, workshops, lectures, sharings, and other collective activities.

Additional Details
The programme places substantial emphasis on collective participation. Cohort Assemblies are scheduled for approximately eight days every two months throughout the two-year cycle. While attendance is strongly encouraged, the Faculty will work individually with participants where scheduling conflicts or access requirements arise. The programme has no fixed syllabus or predetermined curriculum; participants and Faculty collectively shape its activities and learning conditions.
