Sculpture Space NYC (SSNYC) is a ceramics and sculpture center in Long Island City, Queens, founded by artists Andrew Kennedy and Magda Dejose. Its mission is to stimulate creativity, new ideas, and collaboration in ceramics-based investigations, bringing together artists, designers, and craftspeople of all backgrounds to experiment, learn, make, reflect, and grow artistically. The facility offers 8,500 square feet of individual and shared workspaces with 22-foot ceilings and natural light, equipped with a clay 3D printer, potters' wheels, slab rollers, clay extruders, multiple electric kilns, a gas kiln, and a glaze chemistry room with a spray booth. Beyond studio access, SSNYC runs a Curatorial Program (SSNYC-CCA) dedicated to contemporary visual art with a focus on three-dimensional work and ceramics, through which it organizes exhibitions and this Artist-in-Residence program.

SSNYC-CCA Artist-in-Residence Program
The SSNYC-CCA Artist-in-Residence program gives artists access to a communal studio in New York City, aimed at those at a career stage where an intensive ceramics residency will further their artistic development. The residency is framed as offering "the gift of time" to work on specific projects, build community connections, and access resources for project development within a collaborative shared studio. Sculpture Space provides the facility, equipment, and kiln-loading assistance; applicants are expected to have basic ceramic experience already and to be able to work independently.

Eligibility
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Must not be enrolled in a degree-seeking program during the residency term
- Must not be participating in another residency during the program dates
- Must be able to commit a minimum of 15 hours per week to studio practice
- Must have basic ceramic experience and be able to work independently
- Open to all individuals; the program states it does not discriminate based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, gender expression, age, disability, or sexual orientation
Program Benefits & Awards
- Access to a communal studio during open hours, Monday–Sunday, 6:00 AM–11:30 PM
- Up to $2,000 in firing credits
- Up to 100 lbs of clay provided (from a limited selection)
- Access to SSNYC's stock cone 6 and cone 10 glazes (raw materials for custom glaze mixing are not provided)
- Help loading kilns
- One-on-one orientation session before the residency begins

- Application materials required: contact information (full name, email, phone, address, website, and professional social media); a short bio listing the 5 most relevant exhibitions, residencies, or projects; a full proposal including a timeline (days/hours/dates), five images of separate finished pieces (max. 10MB total) with a separate captions document, and a PDF answering questions on project goals, production methods/equipment needs, size and quantity of pieces to be fired, clay and cone temperature, and whether the artist plans to develop their own glazes

- Artist commitments: maintain alignment with the original proposal, timeline, budget, and scope; document the creative process for archival/storytelling purposes; present a finished final project to the public, including an artist talk or demonstration
- Selected artists must sign a formal agreement confirming acceptance of the program terms
- SSNYC cannot assist with visa applications or provide letters of support for external funding applications
- SSNYC cannot help with shipping costs or storage of works created during the residency
- As a small team, SSNYC has limited capacity to answer individual inquiries; applicants are asked to read the guidelines carefully before writing in
