Taylor Wessing Photo Portrait Prize 2026 – International Photography Competition (UK)

The Taylor Wessing Photo Portrait Prize 2026 is a globally recognized Photography competition that celebrates outstanding contemporary portrait photography. Organized annually by the National Portrait Gallery, this prestigious award invites photographers from around the world to submit compelling portraits that explore identity, character, and human presence.

The competition is open to professional and amateur photographers alike, encouraging diverse interpretations of portraiture. The term “portrait” is interpreted broadly, allowing submissions that creatively represent individuals or groups, emphasizing identity and storytelling.

Participants may submit up to six photographs, either as standalone works or as part of a series. All submitted works must have been taken after 1 January 2025 and must be original creations of the entrant. The selection process includes a digital first round followed by a physical judging stage for shortlisted works.

Selected photographers will have the opportunity to exhibit their work in a major exhibition hosted by the National Portrait Gallery, with the potential for the exhibition to tour internationally. This provides exceptional visibility and professional recognition within the global photography community.

  • Digital files (JPG/JPEG, max. 3 MB each) for initial submission
  • High-resolution TIFF file (only if selected)
  • Model release form (required for identifiable subjects)
  • Minor release form (if subject is under 18)

Technical Requirements:

  • Works must be printed (if shortlisted)
  • Maximum size: 1015 x 760 mm
  • Maximum weight: 20 kg
  • Works must be unframed
  • Images must be original and owned by the photographer
  • Works must not have been previously submitted
  • Entries must comply with copyright and legal standards
