The resort is an experimental and site-specific art venue based in Groningen, the Netherlands. Since 2018, the organization has been developing a sustainable platform for contemporary art through residencies, exhibitions, project weeks, talent development, and public programming. Its projects frequently take place at unusual semi-public and public locations, encouraging artists to experiment with new environments, audiences, and forms of presentation.

The resort also develops educational projects with higher education institutions, collaborates with festivals, produces publications, and plans group trips. Its permanent team includes a general manager, marketing employee, producer, and project leader/curator, supported by freelance programme makers, designers, writers, musicians, videographers, and volunteers. For 2025–2028, the organization is supported by the Mondriaan Fund and the Municipality of Groningen.

The resort: Curator / Project Manager

The resort is seeking a Curator / Project Manager to develop, coordinate, and realize its artistic programme. The successful candidate will work closely with artists, colleagues, educational institutions, exhibition locations, and local and international partners to develop experimental art projects in and around Groningen.

The position combines curatorial development, project management, artist support, production coordination, fundraising, partnership development, and educational programming. The role offers substantial responsibility within a small organization undergoing professionalization, with room to contribute to its future artistic and organizational direction.

Position & Tasks

The Curator / Project Manager will:

  • Contribute to the artistic and organizational direction of the resort.
  • Develop new programmes and projects and translate them into realistic medium-term plans.
  • Coordinate programme implementation, schedules, and budgets.
  • Work with the team during production and public events.
  • Maintain close relationships with artists and support the development and presentation of new work.
  • Manage expectations between artists and exhibition locations.
  • Contribute to subsidy applications and identify additional funding opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain local, national, and international cultural partnerships and networks.
  • Develop educational projects in collaboration with higher education institutions.
  • Visit artists in residence, provide feedback, and contribute ideas for presentation.
  • Evaluate completed programmes and contribute to reporting.

Eligibility

  • At least three years of experience in curating and/or developing and coordinating programmes.
  • At least higher professional education (HBO) working and thinking level.
  • Strong conceptual, organizational, communication, and strategic abilities.
  • The ability to translate social and artistic developments into new projects.
  • An existing cultural-sector network, or the motivation and ability to build one quickly.
  • A flexible, proactive, solution-oriented, and collaborative approach.
  • Strong written and spoken Dutch and English.
  • Residence in Groningen or the surrounding area, or willingness to relocate there.
  • A Category B driving licence is an advantage but not required.

The resort welcomes applicants who do not meet every listed requirement but can demonstrate strong motivation and relevant potential. In cases of equal suitability, candidates who bring new perspectives to the team are preferred.
