Workspacebrussels is a Brussels-based organization supporting research, experimentation, and creation in the performing arts. Described as an organization whose mission is to detect and stimulate new ideas and practices within the performing arts, it offers performing artists a flexible framework for research and creation, ranging from studio residencies to co-production, administration, and advisory support across all aspects of development and creation. By connecting artists with programmers, partners, and audiences, workspacebrussels functions as a link in the artistic ecosystem spanning research, production, and presentation. The organization operates as an open, nomadic structure that relies on numerous collaborations across Brussels, with structural partners providing studio space that allows it to make use of existing infrastructure in the city. It also acts as a transit zone between education and the professional field, supporting recently graduated and emerging artists in developing their own artistic language and practice.

Open Call for a Studio Residency at Workspacebrussels
Workspacebrussels invites applications for its ongoing studio residency programme, offering performing artists space and support to develop a project. Selected artists are matched with available studio space at one of several partner locations across Brussels according to their requested period. The programme is intended for research, experimentation, and creation, rather than for finished or fully produced work.

Eligibility
- Open to Belgian and international artists
- Must work within the performing arts in the broad sense (dance, performance, theatre, and crossovers with other disciplines)
- Not open to artists working in music or visual arts, as these disciplines are not supported
Program Benefits & Awards
- Studio space at a suitable partner location in Brussels, matched to the artist's requested period(s)
- A residency lasting between 1 and 3 weeks (multiple residencies possible for the same project)
- Basic technical equipment in some studios (e.g. sound system, microphone, or projector) — studios are not technically equipped or supported overall
- Overnight accommodation, offered only to artists or team members based abroad, subject to availability in the organization's guesthouse (two bedrooms, two single beds each; a baby cot is available)
- A flat fee of €750 (VAT included) per selected project, for travel expenses and lunch
- Optional opportunity to share research, practice, or work with the team and fellow residents at the end of the residency, including as a (semi)public try-out
- Access to a communal lunch every Tuesday for residents working in the studios at that time
- Access to the organization's library, which is expanded based on residents' suggestions

Additional Details
- Proposals may be submitted starting two months before each round's deadline; submitting a round "too early" is not possible, as the organization has not yet received its partners' space planning at that time
- Selection is made by the workspacebrussels team together with an external jury member (an artist or art worker), with about 15 projects selected per round
- Selection criteria include the innovative or experimental character of the project, diversity within the overall programme, and the feasibility of the proposal within workspacebrussels' context
- All applicants receive a reply, but personal feedback cannot be provided for unsuccessful applications due to volume
