Youth Speaks Seattle (YSS) is a Seattle-based youth spoken-word and literary arts program focused on connecting young people with opportunities to develop their voices through spoken word, performance, workshops, and community-based programming. This position is hosted within the organization and works closely with its Executive Director to coordinate programming in schools and maintain relationships with educators and teaching artists.

School Liaison – Youth Speaks Seattle
Youth Speaks Seattle is seeking a School Liaison to develop and maintain relationships with schools, teachers, and teaching artists while coordinating in-school spoken-word and youth arts programming. The successful candidate will help plan and execute activities such as open mics, workshops, presentation series, and mini-slams, while ensuring that program content remains aligned with YSS's mission and values.
The position combines relationship management, arts-program coordination, artist recruitment, scheduling, and occasional teaching or hosting. The School Liaison will also evaluate programs and adapt activities according to feedback and school needs.

- Location: Hybrid; approximately 50% remote and 50% onsite
- Estimated Pay: $35 per hour
- Estimated Hours: 40 hours per month
- Reports to: Executive Director

- Travel: Required throughout the greater Seattle area
- Contract/Employment: Temporary hourly position
Position & Tasks
- Build and maintain relationships with schools and teachers.
- Work with the Executive Director to align in-school programming with YSS values.
- Plan and schedule open mics, workshops, presentation series, mini-slams, and other school programs.
- Develop new program formats in response to school needs and participant feedback.
- Coordinate teaching artists for school programs.
- Identify and recruit qualified teaching artists.
- Review and maintain program materials and plans.
- Teach, host, co-teach, or co-host programs when necessary.
- Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness and recommend adjustments.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, feedback, and teaching-artist information.
- Travel to different schools and teaching locations across the greater Seattle area.

Eligibility
Applicants should have:
- Experience with spoken-word art and its community.
- Experience working with schools and youth ages 13–20.
- The legal ability to accept contracts and receive payments in the United States.
- The ability to complete fingerprinting and background checks required by Seattle Public Schools and nearby school districts.
The position requires communication, coordination, and relationship-building skills. Physical duties can include standing for extended periods, walking, operating equipment, and occasionally lifting or moving up to 35 pounds.
Program Benefits
- $35/hour compensation for approximately 40 hours per month.
