Description & Background
Founded in 2016 by Trinidadian-American artist Debbie Davies, LiTE-HAUS is a non-profit art and cultural space located in the diverse Neukölln neighborhood of Berlin. Functioning as a vital creative hub, the initiative operates with a lean, voluntary team across three bright white rooms divided into dedicated process and exhibition areas. It serves as a professional platform for newcomers looking to integrate into the Berlin art scene and a public space for interdisciplinary dialogue.
Objectives
The organization’s core mission is to encourage cross-cultural connecting and foster collaboration through art, using creativity and culture as tools for building bridges and encouraging dialogue across a polarizing urban landscape. LiTE-HAUS aims to create a welcoming, fair, and inclusive environment that actively combats all forms of racism and discrimination in the art world by championing equality, diversity, and democracy. The space focuses on provocative and situated issues, exploring an expanded definition of “environmental” concerns that encompasses both natural-ecological issues and the diverse, cultural-ecological environments of modern cities. Ultimately, it seeks to challenge the boundaries of art’s definition to bring people together and promote a deeper social and political discourse.
Programs / Opportunities
- The Projektraum (Project Room): A process-based space utilized for experimental projects, creative workshops, residencies, and collaborative research initiatives.
- The Ausstellungsort (Exhibition Venue): A flexible presentation space consisting of three distinct rooms hosting group exhibitions, solo shows, and the physical outcomes of project-room residencies.
- Public Events & Discursive Programming: Organizing neighborhood-engaged events, open discussions, and cross-disciplinary workshops that blend different art practices.
- Cultural Exchange & Liaison Initiatives: Specialized programming and network access to share contemporary Ukrainian art and culture, maintained via a long-term international partnership with the Congress of Cultural Activists in Kyiv.

- Underrepresented & Emerging Creators: Newcomers, independent curators, and emerging artists of all ethnicities, ages, sexual and gender orientations, and levels of education, with a strict focus on promoting marginalized voices.
