Art Hub Copenhagen (AHC) was initiated and founded by the Bikuben Foundation in 2018, growing out of a 2016 Bikuben Foundation report that examined conditions for visual artists in Denmark and identified gaps such as a shortage of studio space and a need for more interdisciplinary, international, and sustainable environments for artists, curators, researchers, and art writers. AHC operates as a non-profit organisation governed by an independent board of art and business professionals. Since 2019, it has been based in Copenhagen's Kødbyen (Meatpacking District); it is now located at Thoravej 29. AHC's activities include residency programmes, mentoring, exhibitions, public events, and publications, and it works to support and promote contemporary art both in Denmark and internationally, including through international collaborations such as its participation in the Performa Biennial in New York.
Title & Description
AHC Residency 2027
AHC Residency is Art Hub Copenhagen's five-month residency programme for professional visual artists, with a focus on artistic development, knowledge sharing, and professional communities. Three to four artists are selected for each of two annual semesters: 1 February to 30 June, and 1 September to 31 January. The programme offers a monthly fee, an individual studio, access to AHC's professional workshops, and a schedule of curatorial meetings, excursions, workshops, and open studio events. There is no requirement to produce a finished artwork during the residency. Applicants who live outside Copenhagen and cannot be present at AHC daily are directed toward AHC's separate Remote Residency programme instead; applying to both programmes simultaneously is not permitted.

Eligibility
- Open to professional visual artists who are citizens of, or hold a long-term residence permit in, an EU/EEA country
- Applicants must hold a master's degree in visual arts, or have an equivalent professional visual arts background
- By the start of the residency, applicants must have completed their education or worked professionally for a minimum of three years
- Applicants must be at least 18 years old
- Application as a duo is possible, but the monthly fee and studio must be shared between the two artists
- Open to artists at different career stages, from early-career to established
- Not open to residents of the United Kingdom (not an EU/EEA country)
- Artists based outside Copenhagen who cannot attend AHC daily should apply to AHC Remote Residency instead; applying to both programmes is not permitted

Additional Details
- Applications must include a CV (maximum 1 page) and photo material (maximum 3 pages), submitted via the official digital application form
- The application form must be completed in English
- Applications submitted after the 23:59 deadline will not go through; the system may experience heavy traffic close to the deadline
- Applications that do not comply with the stated formalities will not be assessed
- The jury consists of three external artists or curators and two AHC representatives; the jury for this call will be announced after the deadline
- Applications are assessed on: the potential, complexity, and commitment of the individual practice; the potential for the residency to accelerate development and complexity of the practice; the applicant's motivation and readiness to complete the residency; and breadth and diversity in practice and identity among those selected
- Rejected applicants will not receive personal feedback
- Performing artists working with performance are welcome to apply, but AHC's facilities cannot accommodate performance, dance, or theatre rehearsals requiring larger spaces; such applicants are advised to consider whether AHC's facilities suit their practice, or to look into the residency offered by AHC's colleagues at HAUT instead
