Short Description:

Art & Type Magazine was formed during the pandemic and was first launched online in the summer of 2020. Faced with the uncertainty of the time, two art school first-years with shared creative passions founded this zine as a way to bring together artists from across the globe by publishing their work. Through a series of open calls, submission reviews, Zoom and email interviews, and countless hours of design and production, we have published the work of over 100 artists and writers across several issues. In 2023 we also hosted a virtual portfolio review, responding to countless artists globally, and always strive share creative resources through our online platforms.  

We aim to not only support the work of our contributors by helping expand their reach, but also support the work of local art organizations. Past issues have benefited the Lower Eastside Girls Club in Manhattan and Diné College in Tsaile, Arizona.

Application Requirements:

Submissions are NOW OPEN for issue seven: Keepsake! Send us a pitch at artandtypemagazine@gmail.com for a visual art feature, written piece, multi-media essay, or any other format you may envision.

Program Benefits or Awards:

Selected submissions will result in a print issue, the proceeds of which will be donated as a part of our ongoing fundraising projects. Past donations have been made to WIN, Diné College, Lowereastside Girls Club, Bluestockings, and ARTWORXLA.
