The 2027 program is subject to the availability of public funds.

Title & Description

Berlin Visual Arts Publication Grant 2027

Presentation Funding 2027: Individual Publications of Contemporary Visual Art in Berlin supports the production of substantial publications that document and communicate an artist's practice. Both analog and digital publications are eligible.

A proposed publication must meet at least one of these criteria: it is a monographic book providing an overview of the artist's overall work; it presents a coherent series of works; or it focuses on a defined period of artistic production. Artist books are also eligible when conceived as independent artworks in book form and when the book format itself forms part of the artistic concept.

The publication must be produced between February and December 2027 and must be published at least partly in German.

Eligible applicants are:

  • Berlin-based visual artists with an established record of high-quality artistic work.
  • Established artistic collectives working exclusively as an artistic group.
  • For collectives, the majority of members must have their first residence in Berlin; for a two-person group, both members must be Berlin residents.

Additional requirements:

  • This must be the applicant's first individual publication, or their last publicly funded individual publication must have been more than three years ago.
  • Students are excluded.
  • The project must not have already started.
  • The publication must not be primarily profit-oriented.

Program Benefits & Awards

Selected applicants can receive a grant of up to €27,000 toward the production of their individual publication.

Funding decisions are made following assessment by an independent jury appointed by the Senate Department. The jury evaluates the applicant's demonstrated artistic quality and the professional quality of the proposed publication project.

Applicants are expected to consider an appropriate way of presenting the completed publication to the public.
